I have a very painful sore/ulcer on the palate since 4 days. My doc says it was triggered by drug reaction -I had just prior to the outbreak. Applying TESS (Triamcinolone Acetonide) on the area, using chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash & having Rebamipide tabs for fast healing and Cefuroxime Axetil antibiotic tablet that has no effect on healing. Anyone suffered the same? What time it takes for remission? What blood test is necessary for ruling out other possibilities? Answer from experienced & proffessional pl.

Ugh. I use triamcinolone acetonide on my psoriasis. I can't imagine using it in my mouth. Now, antibiotics work pretty quickly *if* it's caused by bacteria. But how do you know it's bacteria? Canker sores can be mouth herpes, which is a virus and does its own virus thing unhindered by antibiotics.

I have bad mouth ulcers sometimes--the skin peels off the roof of my mouth, usually about the size of a quarter but sometimes it's one whole side of the roof of my mouth (hard and soft palate.) Since I've been using Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash (beneficial enzymes or something like that in it), I've only had one small sore and it healed pretty quickly. You have to keep your mouth moist--dry mouth from meds or conditions definitely makes teeth and gums and mouth sores way worse. Avoid sodium lauryl or laureth sulfate--a harsh detergent that can make sores worse. Eat well (not too many citrus fruits or juice or tomatoes while the sore's there, but healthy otherwise), drink plenty of water, try the Biotene, and if that doesn't work, go back to the dr. But you may just need to give this regimen a little time, though it sounds awfully harsh. Canker sores don't respond well to harsh treatment--be gentle until they heal. Biotene keeps my mouth moist and pretty much ulcer-free--you might want to try it. It tastes weird, but it works for me.
