First of all, Figure out why your parents don't want one. It might be for a health problem or like my mom, they might just not like animals. I would not get a fish to be honest because they die really quick some of them I mean.
If you can figure out the issue try and fix it. And if it fails, be patient. I understand how you feel. We all have this problem. After my dog died my grandmaw said no more pets. She said God has a plan and we will get the right dog and the right time. So go by that. I've wanted a horse for 12 years just about so I really understand.
Untill then, read up about dogs, be responbile, be a "detactive" and figure out why you can't get a dog.
good luck

Your parents are right. Many of us had this problem. Besides, it is them who will have to take the dog to the vet, to find what to do in the holidays, to clean the house, etc. If they do not want the responsibility, it is wrong to put it on them, because the dog will not have proper care and it might be left in the street at the end. Get one when you'll have your own house. PS. I always asked my parents for a pet. Now I am married and I have a cat and a dog. It is tough!

Wait till you move out. In the mean time, how about volunteering at your local humane society, animal shelter, or animal control. That way you can help homeless pets, learn more about dogs in general, learn more about specific breeds, and still get to play with dogs! Almost every shelter out there needs more volunteer help in exercising the animals, cleaning and feeding them, and in finding them new homes. You can start telling other people about the wonderful dogs and cats you work with at the shelter. You would not only be bettering yourself, but the lives of those animals and the community that adopts them.

I've got a two dogs and although I love them to pieces, they are really hard work. You are probably best off waiting until you are old enough to look after yourself and an animal entirly on your own before considering getting one. This is, of course, excluding goldfish and stick insects which are really easy to take care of and can be quite good fun to.

Your parents have spoken. You sound very young yet: Learn all you can and get ready to move out when you're old enough.

Meanwhile, you can study up on dogs so you will know how to take care of them, when it is time.

Good luck!
