I have not seen these cartoons and don't know what they are about, but I would like to know if the images of Mohammed where replaced with images of the average person in the street, would they still be offensive?

There were a dozen caricatures all mocking the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in one way or another. One portrayed him as a terrorist with a bomb in his turban. We should all be clear here that the motivation behind the cartoons were to make the muslims angry, and I believe they got what they wanted.

Yes. It would offend every Muslim because Allah and Muhammad always beats in every Muslim heart wherever he/she are in the world. It makes sense that people are just offended if you make someone else's religion a joke. Just like if one jokes on Jews, Christians, Hindus or Buddhists. I respect every religion because they all teach one thing in common, Peace.
