I used to be very, very thin & I gained weight so now I'm like 5'3 & 160 lbs, which I believe is obese. I really want to get my hair cut/dyed & hope it will give me some motivation to keep on my new exercise plan (2 hrs a day w/ trainer ) (already lost 25lbs).

But I am afraid
1. people will laugh at me that I am so fat, why bother about my hair.
2. I may not fit in the chair (I am really bottom heavy mostly)

3. the hair stylist will say something like "well, we should cut your hair at this angle because your face is "a little" chubby"

Am I being too sensitive? Should I go?

By your input - you are now 145 lbs --- that's far from obese --- and as this whole situation is probably a fabrication ???

Go for whatever feels like it 'fits' for you, at this time. . .

Hey!

I can understand you. When I started dieting/exercising, I also wanted to reward myself from time to time.

The thing is that once you start losing weight, you become more sensitive about your weight!

If I were you, I would go to the hairdresser because now it is the time to go outdoors and face the world.

1. People are so busy they will not laugh at you.

2. However heavy your bottom may be... the chair will fit. Don't worry about that one.

3. Hair stylists will want you to come back... they won't say anything as such.

CONGRATS for losing these extra pounds. Just feel beautiful! Let it rock!

Good luck!

Yes, you are definitely being over sensitive, but I understand. I sometimes feel uncomfortable purchasing make-up, because my face was disfigured in an accident.
Please don't worry about not fitting in the chair. I was a hairstylist before my accident, and the chairs have plenty of room. I have a feeling that you have a distorted self image.
Congratulations on your move towards changing that. Your loss of 25 lbs. is fantastic, and going with a personal trainer is an excellent idea.
I encourage you to make the appointment to have your hair done. Check around first. Walk into a salon or two, and find a stylist who has the ability to look at facial structure and help you choose the style that will compliment you best.
Good luck to you on your goals, I am pulling for you.

Sweetie, you need to stop thinking of yourself in a negative light. That's why you have such a negative view of your physical appearance. You need to focus on your positive attributes and keep telling yourself said attributes and affirming yourself on a daily basis. You'll be amazed at how your thinking will turn around. You're already leaning toward the positive with the work with the trainer you're doing now! You can accomplish so much more, so keep it up!

That being said, I will address your concern about being able to fit in the chair. Most salon chairs are rather ample in size. They're designed for people of many shapes and sizes, not for supermodels only. And at your height and weight, it should be far from a problem. Don't sweat it! Go! You'll feel a lot better!

And if the stylist/shampoo girl/receptionist gets snide or snotty with you, no problem! There are other salons around! You don't have to give them your business! Someone out there will appreciate your business! So go! Good luck!

Yes, way to sensitive!

Don't beat up on yourself like that!

The first thing that I would like to point out is the fact that you have an exercise plan and that you have lost 25 lbs! That's fukken awesome! Don't stop! You have already done the hard part... getting started.

So what if the hair dresser wants to cut your hair a certain way to compliment your shape... That is what they do for a living, he/she might know some secrets!

What you really should do is get your hair, nails and facial done! If for no other reason than as a personal reward for trying to take care of yourself! Not to mention that 25 lbs that you have misplaced!

I have been working out almost every day for 20 yrs. If you stick with it, you will get to a point that you couldn't imagine going thru a day without doing it!

After my wife had our last child, she not only didn't loose that pregnancy weight, but kept putting it on. She was so miserable. She was always down on herself about it. Personally, I thought she was still sexy at 170 lbs... That didn't matter because she wasn't happy.

Look, get your hair done!!! you will be happy you did it! I promise!

I was over-weight my whole life. Being fat was my "image." One day, I just couldn't take it anymore. I was fed up in living in a prison without walls. I tired from avoiding going out in public so as not to be seen, not caring for myself, low self-esteem, no confidence, letting others use me like a doormat. Looking and feeling like garbage. Forget about going to a place where there would be "beautiful" people like the gym, hair salon, etc. Those places terrified me. Then, one day, I got sick and tired of being sick and tired. I adopted the attitude that if someone has a problem with me being somewhere they can go F*%$! themselves. Little by little, my confidence grew and as my confidence grew, I started to do more and more with my life. Now, over 120 pounds lost (and a little ways to go) my life and image has forever changed. It all started with an attitude (the right attitude) The body follows the mind. You'll be amazed at what you can do with the right mindset. Don't expect perfection always, when you faulter on your new program, get back on it and attack. Living healthy and right must become a way of life, not just something you do for a fleeting moment. You must break the chains that have been holding you down. Get yourself in the right mindset and your body will follow. Go get your hair done. Look in the mirror (and every day) and say, "Wow, I look great today and every day I will move closer to becoming that person I want to be because I can do it and no-one is going to stop me! And for those who don't believe in me, for those who think I'm wasting my time going to the hair salon or gym, Thank-you because it's people like you that add fuel to my fire. I will not be denied, I will never stop, I will never give in, I will win." I have to go now, gotta go to the gym!

You absolutely should go to the hairdresser. Getting a good haircut and some color will make you feel much better about yourself. No one is going to say anything, and you will have no problem fitting in the chair.

Don't sell yourself short. You've already accomplished a lot and you're continuing to work on your weight loss and physical condition. Look at the haircut as another step towards the new you! You need to give yourself little "treats" along the way. You deserve it. Hold your head up and don't let anything stop you!

Your being too sensitive. Go ahead and go. and if the stylist makes some crack about your weight, make a crack about her face. Im a cosmetology student, and the last thing im thinking about is my clients weight. Im analyzing her hair and thinking about what would look the best on her.

Besides, 160 and 5'3 is not obese. im 5'4 and weigh 155 and im not obese or fat!! I doubt five pounds and one inch make that much difference.

Get in there and get your hair did girl!! and if your really anxious, get a fat chick to do your hair. we come in all sizes, believe me!

You are not at the size you want to be, but believe me most women aren't. Your stylist I'm sure has clients of all shapes and sizes and you shouldn't feel like your worthy of pampering because of your weight.

I'm overweight and I don't care what people think. This is really not about a hairstyle its about you needing to work on your self-esteem, regardless if you decide to go to the salon or not.

Your stylist won't say anything about your weight even if she does notice because the your money and future business is her main worry.

Yes you are being way to sensative. You should definately go. You are not obese. You will definately fit in the chair. I have had clients who were easily 300 lbs fit in my chair. It sounds like you need more than just a color and cut. You need to believe in yourself and get your self esteem back. Whether you are fat or thin should not be the determining factor to your happiness or well being.

You are putting so much effort into exercise, which means you want to look good and at the same time feel good about yourself. Getting your hair done will build up and motivate you to keep at it DO IT just make sure you go to the right salon that has people who are not young and snotty.
