Here is a good link..http://www.parktool.com/repair/
Place your cursor over the area of concern, and click. It will walk you through the installation or repair. If you need tools, see your local bike shop and also visit eBay there are many tools for sale. Go for either Pedro's or Park. Axiom isn't bad either.

If you want to do it yourself, get the tools needed and ask your local bike shop tech how to do it. And if you are putting on a different sized cassette you may want to look into a new chain or a different chain length. If you currently have say a 32 as your first gear and want to put on a 34 you'll probably have to put another link in your chain. If you go down a size from 32 to 30 you may need to take one out. Check with your local bike tech before working on it. Or have them do it and you know it will be done properly.

you need to buy a freewheel and chaintool first. take the wheel off of the bike and place the freewheel tool inside the cassette. the chaintool is two pieces of chain attached to a metal straightedge... it is used to wrap the chain around the cassette to keep it from spinning. put a wrench over the end of the freewheel tool and push down... the cassette will spin freely off and you can install the new one... good luck!
