I used to be very, very thin & I gained weight so now I'm like 5'3 & 160 lbs, which I believe is obese. I really want to get my hair cut/dyed & hope it will give me some motivation to keep on my new exercise plan (2 hrs a day w/ trainer ) (already lost 25lbs).

But I am afraid
1. people will laugh at me that I am so fat, why bother about my hair.
2. I may not fit in the chair (I am really bottom heavy mostly)

3. the hair stylist will say something like "well, we should cut your hair at this angle because your face is "a little" chubby"

Am I being too sensitive? Should I go?

Also I'm a size 8 but I can only wear skirts because I carry most of weight in my legs so I can't fit into any pants.

You are not severely obese. You are just overweight, but join the gang. I could understand your concern if you were 260 and 5'3, but you are at the most slightly overweight.

You are not so overweight people would stare at you. I doubt anyone would give you a second glance other than wondering why you would think you would break a chair.

I think that perhaps you have a self esteem issue or perhaps body dysmorphia. You certainly won't break anyone's chair. I think you need to take a step back and notice how large some people can be. My sister is a hairstylist, and I actually saw one of her clients break her chair. That person (it was a woman) was pushing close to 300 pounds.

I hope those 2 hours a day with your trainer don't backfire on you with overeating and burning your body out with injuries and overuse. 25lbs is great. You should be so proud of yourself and motivated not thinking of yourself with disgust.

You should absolutely treat yourself to a new hairstyle. Make sure you tell your stylist exactly what you want done, and don't be afraid to speak up if the style isn't working for you. Look at this as a new beginning, and if you get tired of your new style you can try a different style. Think of the possibilities and fun you can have.

Does your doctor know you are working out 2 hours a day, and that you seem to have an unrealistic idea of what size you are? Please speak with your doctor.

You have the rest of your life to enjoy your health, new body and plenty of new hairstyles.

Hey! I can understand you. When I started dieting/exercising, I also wanted to reward myself from time to time. The thing is that once you start losing weight, you become more sensitive about your weight! If I were you, I would go to the hairdresser because now it is the time to go outdoors and face the world. 1. People are so busy they will not laugh at you. 2. However heavy your bottom may be... the chair will fit. Don't worry about that one. 3. Hair stylists will want you to come back... they won't say anything as such. CONGRATS for losing these extra pounds. Just feel beautiful! Let it rock! Good luck!

I would say, decide which hair stylist you want to see and go into their shop to set up your appointment. Talk to your stylist face to face and then there are no surprise for you or them at the appointment. That way if special arrangements, for a chair, need to made by the stylist they will take care of it before your appointment.

As far as the style, look through magazines and find what style you want. Take a picture to the stylist and do not ask for their opinion. Just tell them the style in the picture is what you want.

You are being a little sensitive, but weight is a sensitive subject for most people. Hold your head high, walk in there, and get a new "do". If that does encourage you to stay on your new plan, it will be worth it in the long run!!

Good Luck!!!

By all means go get your hair cut. It will give you more confidence. I used to weigh a lot more than you. And it never bothered me, and the women and men in the salon were VERY nice. If you are feeling anxious when you get there, tell them that you are on a new excercise regimen, and you want a new look for your new outlook on life. And go for it.
Congratulations on the 25 pounds. I know, how hard it is. So you are already off to a great start. Inside you are still the same person and believe it or not, on the outside you are still the beautiful person you have always been. My step mother is a beautician and she always asks how would you like your hair cut. So, if you have a style in mind, tell them. They do not just automatically say, I am gonna give you a cut for your face because it is a little "chubby". They don't do that for kids, who are not even a little chubby but have the cherub like cheeks.

I say go for it, and it will give you some needed self esteem to go along with what you want to accomplish.

Best Wishes,

Beverly

You should definitely go get your hair done and anything else you might decide to do. You are working hard to undo the damage you've done to yourself and you should be proud about that accomplishment. Keeping yourself looking good is part of changing your life and getting on the road to being healthy again. Don't stop living your life and doing things you enjoy because of a little weight. True beauty comes from loving yourself and if you can learn to do that, others will see how beautiful you are. Also, who really cares what others think? People are so wrapped up in themselves they could probably care less.

LOL. you're kidding right? 5'3 and you're 160 and you think you're fat? boy, you got problems. i honestly don't think that's fat. you're curvy not obese. that's not obese. you're probably 30lbs overweight but that's not too bad. 2 hours a day with a trainer? that's a little too much, u'll get tired of that soon enough. do it slowly and who gives a **** what other ppl say. if u feel good inside..doesn't matter what others say. btw, i'm not even 5'1 and probably 10lbs lighter than you and never in my life has anyone told me i'm fat. sure, i'm trying to lose it but it's hard, and i don't have a trainer and i rarely work out. i can lose it if i really want to but i watch a lil of this and that and that's about it. get over it and start working on your attitude and outlook of how you look like otherwise it doesn't really matter how much u'll weigh you'll always feel like that.

At least you are willing to look nice, i think most of the women think just because there overweight or just Fat they don't try to look nice, and they should, i use to be 260lbs now i am 135lbs, lost tons of weight, but even then i always dressed nice and did my hair and stuff, i had to make up for the Fat parts of me. Hang in there you can do it I know you can, and as for the Hair stuff, just do it, who cares what other people think, as long as you are happy. Go get your hair done girl.

To me, getting your hair done is going to make you feel better and keep motivated! You keep going girl and don't worry about what others say! Your confidence and your self-esteem and your life is what you are working on, who cares what others think! The older I get, the more I realize that! So please don't let others actions or words ever stop you from doing what you want. You have just as much right to be there. I understand about being sensitive and doing the what-if's, then stop your thoughts right there and do something healthy, something good for you!!!!! Good luck! Enjoy it!

Boy! You sure do have low self esteem. Why? 160 is not obesese and if you need a haircut go. What are you going to do, not go to work, grocery store, etc.? Come on, get real.
