I need to know can you use anything else besides Windows to operate your computer? I had someone to rformat my HD and they put XP pro but its not authentic...

You can buy an authentic XP Pro License for under $200. If that is a problem, there are other operating systems available for much less but you might find that the software that your friends are using (like MS Word, Excel) may not run properly. Everything else is going to be a compromise to some degree.

I know it's a shame, nowadays you can buy a computer for much less than the cost of the software. This is why the richest man is Bill Gates - of Microsoft.

Go to CompUSA and google Operating Systems in a friend's computer and you'll see all of the options out there.

you could buy an older version of windows ie. 98 or me, or as suggested linux is a free o/s.

with linux, you can experiance some difficultys as it is not as user freindly as windows but some good versions are available such as kubutnu, linux is free as are most of the programes for it but often problems are found with hardware compatiabilty. though forums exista nd people in th elinux community are very freindy, one thiing to note though is linux does not have may games so if you wanna play them you will have to stick with windows
