No, only a foreign language. Some schools will accept American Sign Language, so make sure you contact the college if you are taking American Sign lang.

This is a question for the admissions office of the college you want to attend. Every college or university will have different requirements for what high school classes you should take.

The university that I got my bachelor's degree from, for example, required, I believe, two-years of high-school language, but they accepted my four years of German previous to high school. I think the previous answerer who said that colleges don't have foreign languages requirements anymore must be mistaken.

Most colleges require or at least encourage basic familiarity with another language. Often, they will give a placement test in your chosen foreign language to assist you in picking the right courses. I do recommend high school classes, just to increase your likelyhood of performing well on this exam.

Not at all. I think colleges like to see that you've taken a foreign language in high school, but I doubt that it's a concrete requirement for most colleges. If it were, the school would say so up front.

Double check to be sure, but colleges dropped foreign language requirement about 30 years ago.

HOWEVER, if you are going to take a foreign language do it in High School not college, it's a lot slower and better paced in High School.

You usually have to take some foreign language. Not necessarily Spanish.
