There is no mystery here. The only way to lose weight is to take in less calories then you expend. Diet and exercise is the correct way, a change in a persons lifestyle is the only way to lose weight and keep it off. You need to speak to your friend in a healthy way. Weight is a sensitive issue in a teenage girl. You have to approach this in a way that does not hurt, offend or anger her. Let her know that you care about her, and want her to be healthy. Then she needs to discuss this with her parents and doctor, to develope a plan that has everyone on the right track and on the same page. Good Luck!

Reports here in Canada have been saying that a great number of young people are extremely overweight - so she is not alone. There are many weight loss programs that could be helpful to her, but she can start first by seeing her doctor to get his suggestions. She needs to be very proud of the fact that she is involved in sports. Being as young as she is, getting the proper direction to starting good eating habits will help her not only now but in the future. Encourage and support her to succeed.

You could ask her to go take a walk with you. Don't tell her you want her to exercise, just invite her to walk and chat. Have fun. When she comes to your house to hang out, be a good role model, and eat lots of fruits and veggies. If you are eating them, she will, too. If you are casual about this, you may have a good impact on her. Just remember to be her friend, always, regardless of her weight. It is hard enough being a teenager, without the extra weight, don't add to it by dumping her, or being embarrassed if people tease her.

she needs to get on a balanced diet with lots of fruit/fiber and water its good she's getting exercise. but yes she does need to get that weight off because she can start having health problems down the line. also she needs to go to the doctor and get her thyroid checked out he/she can run some other blood tests to make sure that she doesn't have a health issue now.

your friend may be suffering from a really slow metablosim this could possibly explain why she is not losing weight even with sport
my advice to her would be to see a qualified dietician ,they will take a sample of blood to do tests to find out more about her bloodgroup and how this affects her weight she may have carbohydrate sensitvity so maybe she should lay off things like bread ,potatoes crisps and pasta
gooooood luck to your friend

well, she needs to definitly change her eating habits then. dont eat so much! if she is that young that short and that much weight, she needs to see a doctor, she could have damaged some things so please tell her to lay off the big meals, and to start eating 6 smaller meals a day, and mcdonalds doesnt count as a meal!
