My cat has a sore behind his ear about the size of a nickel now that he will not quit scratching and re-opening the wound. How do I make a homemade "cone" so he will leave it alone and let it heal?

You need:
Plastic flexible folder
Scissors
Self stick velcro pads

I actually had to do this before. Take one of those plastic folders in any stationary department. Measure your cat's neck. Make a cone shape out of the folder. Cut the smaller end off and measure till it's about an inch longer than your cat's neck measurement. Cut off the big end until you get the right length. You want to make sure that your cat can still be able to eat and drink. Unroll the collar and stick the velcro on either side of the part and voila...a collar. It's really kind of hard to explain it without pictures, LOL!

By keeping her indoors! You can put sunscreen on a cat (not all would be safe because a cat naturally washes her ears and nose especially if she knows there is something foreign there. You might keep her in between the hours of 10AM and 5PM every day. And no cat is safe outside at dawn and dusk, so that's a no-no. I have a silver striped tabby (now 17) and she has had cancers taken from her nose two times now. I hope it's gone as there are no signs of regrowth these last six months. She has always loved being in the garden and I can say no cat I have known will sit outside and "sunbath". They pretty much stay undercover and still enjoy the light and sunshine.
