No, but children that have haad plenty of love and nurture should want to please their parents by working through problems with them. If you have a problem with your parents try to talk to them about it. If they do not want to listen then it is they that have the problem.
We need to learn that parents and children all share the same basic human rights. Under a certain age the parents are responsible for the children, but we should always treat children as equals and learn from them as well as teach. This is the only way. Creating barriers and excessive rules only alienates children and makes them want to rebel. Keep the channels of communication open and be prepared to make allowances as they should be as well.

You have the right not to do what they say ONLY if they are telling you to do something illegal or life threatening like killing someone or jumping off a bridge. Or helping them rob banks or stealing. Oh yeah if they are molesting or truly abusing you. Other than that you should obey them because you are living under their roof and eating their food. Regardless of how old you get or if you move out they will always be your parents. I learned this from experience. Your parents are there to help and nurture you. And to help you make the right decisions. Obeying your parents will give you a longer life.

If you are a parent asking this question I would say that the younger your child the more likely it is that your child needs your guidance. For example your three year old has to brush his or her teeth every day, and three year olds are notorious for avoiding this activity. Somehow you have to get your child to brush teeth. The older your child, the more you have to work with your child, for example your teenager needs to make his or her own decisions, and as long as they are not life threatening, as a parent you have to learn to let go. As a parent one should always try to work with one's kids (see unconditional parenting by Alfie Kohn) rather than ruling over them using force.
If you are a child aksing this question you will have to challenge your parents as best and respectfully as you can. Try to get them to tell you why they want you to do something (if you are old enough to ask this question you are old enough for your parents to give you some reason for what they are asking).

Umm think what you would be like if your parents never told you what to do, things would be out of hand. i remember when my parents pissed me off sooo much i couldn't take it,and they just didn't tell me what to do it had to be perfect. But im glad they did, because you will come to your senses to know they care for you and it only makes you stronger.
