Two questions:

Why did Bush pull our US forces out of Saudi Arabia after 9/11?

IMO, the terrorists hatred of us is in part fueled by our troop presence in the Middle East, so if we left Iraq, would the terrorists leave Iraq?

No flaming, this is a provacation for some real dialogue.

some great answers so far....

It is far more credible to your point of view to be respectful and not attack. Or at least my husband tells me that when I holler at him.

you assume two things that are not proven to be a fact ... that bin laden is even in the picture ... and that there are actually terrorists that hate us ... there is, im sure, in the mind of almost every arab, a worried thought and a dislike of the fact that a world superpower has invaded their land .... your trying to portray some evil terrorist empire that we are fighting and i challenge you to prove its existance..... so no ... the "terrorist" wont leave iraq, because we considr every towel wearing last one of them a terrorist.

US troops were still in Saudi several years after 9/11. The withdrawal process had begun before then through a mutual agreement between the two governments. The force was reduced gradually, beginning with JTF-SWA, but the process was speeded up considerably after the US invaded Iraq in 2003 so that the US could have a relatively secure strategic base in the area -- now Qatar.
The terrorist activity in Iraq may have been fueld in part as you say by the US presence, but their goals are not focused solely on America but more on internal political and religious issues.

Personally, I suspect that in some small part (quite small), the invasion of Iraq was designed to give us permanent bases in the region that were not on Islamic holy ground. That would allow us to pull our troops from Saudi Arabia while still staying nearby to protect oil supplies.

Certainly we are building at least five extremely large bases in Iraq, and while there's some debate about the meaning of the terms "permanent," I don't see how these constructions could be called anything else.

I do think a withdrawal would reduce some of the animosity certain groups have toward us, but I'm doubtful if it would calm the major source of tension in Iraq, which is simply a religious and financial conflict between Sunnis and Shiites. I believe that nation is in a civil war, and one that really isn't about us any more.

American-led invasion of Iraq and blind support to Israel are the main causes for the growth of terrorism in the Middle East!
9-11 and troop pull out from Saudi Arabia may not have any connection, though Bin Laden hails from that country!
If the troops are withdrawn before the mess caused by them is cleared, it could actually aggravate the situation as American invasion is also the cause of apparent civil war in Iraq!

well, although we shouldn't have invaded iraq in the first place, pulling out now won't fix it. sometimes when you break something, you can't fix it. what's broke is the balance between shiites (iran) and sunnis (arabs) and we put iraq up for grabs, which was pretty stupid because 1) we want a country friendly to the US 2)we want a democracy 3)the great majority are shiites 3) the shiites are backing iran and against the US. You can't make that set of equations work out.
and yeah, bin laden really was most POed about the US in saudi arabia, followed by the US in arabia in general, followed by Israel as a representative of the modern world (i.e. the US) in arabia. None of this crap about 'hating us for our freedoms' or some such. remember, we supported his war against the soviet union in afghanistan for years.
which of course had nothing to do with iraq or the shiites vs the sunnis.

well our forces left saudi arabia in 2000 before 9/11 and we have only technical bases over there ...4 as i remember
terrorist will never leave iraq because they want to build islamic fundimental state there as for somalia (the new afghanistan with the new version of taliban) ,i think the best solution for iraq is by splitting the country into 3 states so can our troops focus on the sunni territory where al-qaida supporters are found
and we should send troops to somalia as soon as possible before its too late and we see another 9/11
this is my opinion and in general the opinions of the guys in my unit ( special force pilot)

This can be one of the reasons. But there are multiple factors involved here. First, the Muslims and Arabs are a little xenophobic. Second, Muslims have some political disputes like Palestine issue, they consider Israel the lackey of US, and they feel that an injustice has been committed. Third, Most of Muslim nations are poor (though it is to a certain extent their own fault) they blame the west for it. Finally, After the demise of Soviet Russia in 1991, USA is the only global power left, and there is always a certain jealousy against such nations.

We created and funded Bin Laden's gang, then didn't listen when he said all he wants is that foreign troops leave Muslim lands and didnt negotiate with the Taliban when they offered Bin Laden in exchange for peace.

Put 2 and 2 together and you will see oil was the motive all along

First, Bush pulled out because the Saudis were threatening to cut off our fuel, and Bush nearly ****ed himself, he got out so fast. And no, the terrorists would still hate us because we are not a Muslim nation. They would still attack us because they have other prov ocation to as well, such as our killing them in masses.
