Mohammad did his best to quote from the Bible, but his sources were tainted. He learned most of his scripture from heretical gnostic Arabs who skewed the original scriptures and lost the original message. The Qur'an confuses Mary (Miriam in Hebrew) with another Miriam who lived 1400 years prior. The Qur'an also declares that Christians include Mary as part of the Trinity, which is also a mistake. Had Mohammad been literate, he might have been able to discern between the actual canonized sciptures and the wide variety of heretical scriptures which had managed to pollute the Arabian penninsula over the centuries prior to Mohammad's birth. It's not his fault. He was just repeating the stories he heard.
Muslim apologists always insist the discrepencies between canonized Biblical scripture and the Qur'an is "because the Bible was changed by both Christians and Jews". But when even MODERN CANONIZED BIBILICAL SCRIPTURE is compared to the Aramaic manuscripts found in the caves of Qumran (a.k.a the Dead Sea Scrolls, which date to the 1st century B.C.) the degree of literal preservation is remarkable. Unless this is just another "conspiracy" of the Church and the Jews, it suggests the Qur'an might indeed contain fallacies and errors which deserve addressing.
I know I'll be getting alot of THUMBS DOWNs for this, but that's OK. I've done my homework and I base my assertions on historical fact rather than dogmas.
Peace!

There is no definitive, scientific proof that either of them are or are not the word of God.
Christians base their acceptance of the Bible as the word of God on the great amount of apparently circumstancial evidence that points to that being the most likely option, and the apparent inspiration of someone much more than human.
Examples are the number of people involved, over a couple thousand years, writing in such different circumstances, and yet there is no substantial disagreement on God.
The Quran can't match that. For those who choose to accept the Bible as the word of God, everything else must be in agreement with it. Therefore the Quran, which doesn't always agree with Bible writings, seems not to have the same level of involvement by God.

JackBauer,
Literally: because they deny the Christ. They look for the Hidden Imam. They deny the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Jesus Christ is actually the Word of God who created all things in the beginning.
Figuratively: because they say that God can have no son. When Jesus said that He is the Son of God.
All the types and shadows that pointed to Jesus in the Old Testament were fulfilled by Jesus, and all of the ones that point to Him that are yet to happen involve the Word of God. They deny these things. Jesus is the center to the word of God.
Edit: See? I told everyone that science was a faith! Not you have it from Speak freely. heh.

i don't much about quran, but i do know the bible word is true & alive for me. i must admit only after i was a born again christian with the holy spirit help & start a real relationship with JC, the bible is so much more relevant. i can open the bible in the morning, turn to certain page & like a miracle, a verse in there was the exact solution i needed that morning. so i can deny the bible is true & the real thing for me.

The problem is not with the Quran, its with people who misinterpret it to mean that killing anyone who does not believe as they do is acceptable. Other religions have also made this error. God would not want us to kill his children anymore than any normal parent would inflict pain on their offspring. Until we understand this we are all wandering in circles.

Because God is eternal and unchangeable. That means that He doesn't contradict Himself. If a book or a prophet claims to have the word of God and it contradicts what God has already said then by definition it is not the word of God.

It is the work of a man, Muhammad. I have no reason to believe it was divinely inspired. I have plenty of reasons to believe that it was not divinely inspired.
