NO ONE has answered your question. "Kangaroo" is the Guugu Yimidhirr word for......kangaroo!

It does NOT mean "I don't know", that is just a silly myth told by ignorant people who want to demean the Australian Aboriginal people.

the other idiots don't seem to know what you are talking about so they are the idiots.
as I have studied yes kangaroo is a word that comes from the aborigine of can-gu-ru or something like that, that means "I don't understand"

Plus: do you know that the name of Yucatan in Mexico means "I´m not from here" (that's what they answered when a Spanish asked the name of the region)

is any of several large macropods (the marsupial family that also includes the wallabies, tree-kangaroos, wallaroos, pademelons and the Quokka: 65 species in all). The term kangaroo is sometimes used in a broader sense to refer to all members of the macropod family. Kangaroos are native to the continent of Australia, while tree-kangaroos are also found in New Guinea.

yes i heard this too, it is a very good question.
When the travellers came to australia they asked the natives what those weird animals were called and they said "we don't know" in their own language, which sounded like 'Kangaroo', because they didn't understand what they were asked actually.
Unfortunately, i don't know if it is true.
