I'm interested in the concept of:

- Showing adequate "respect" for Islam
- Not offending Muslims

Partly because there are people who want to kill me if I do, but only partly. Like most people I'm a reasonable chap who doesn't want to cause undue offence (I know there are lots who do want to - but most don't).

Now, given that I am not a Muslim, I will not avow all the aspects of the Islamic faith that a Muslim would. I do not, for example, believe that Muhammad was a prophet. Nor do I believe that the Quran is true. These two criticisms of Islam seem to me to be inherent in the concept of "non-Muslim" - if I believed in the truth of the Quran and the prophetic status of Muhammad I would be a Muslim.

Now presumably Muslims would agree that I may follow any religion I choose (and anyone other than Islam implies the two statements above). However there are certain other criticisms that would be offensive..

Can any Muslim explain to me where the line is?

I am Muslim. The things that our religion teaches us to be angry about, is ATTACKS against the religion or our prophet. Disagreeing with it is fine. Stating you do not believe what we believe is fine.

"To you be your religion, and to me my religion (Islâmic Monotheism)." [Quran 109:6]

But, the attacks I'm talking about are basically statements about pedophile and suicide bomber and spreading the religion by the sword (his village of Muslims was attacked; he had to fight back - "excuuuuuse him" lol). Things like that are not acceptable to outright state without drawing anger in our hearts. We are to be peaceful to THOSE WHO DO NOT FIGHT US ON ACCOUNT OF OUR RELIGION.

"Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity." [The Noble Qur'an 60:8]

And, also, we FIGHT, but appropriately to the situation. Pope attacks us with words, we can attack back with words. Someone tries to shoot us, we can shoot back. etc.

"And fight in the Way of Allâh those who fight you, but TRANSGRESS NOT THE LIMITS. Truly, Allâh likes not the transgressors." [Quran 2:190]
---------------------------------
Quran 60:1 is spoken of incorrectly above in an answer:

O you who believe! Take not My enemies and your enemies (i.e. disbelievers and polytheists, etc.) as friends, showing affection towards them, while they have disbelieved in what has come to you of the truth (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism, this Qur'ân, and Muhammad SAW), and have driven out the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) and yourselves (from your homeland) because you believe in Allâh your Lord! If you have come forth to strive in My Cause and to seek My Good Pleasure, (then take not these disbelievers and polytheists, etc., as your friends)."

The islamic word, where it says "friend" is AULIYA which means not just "friend" but a friend that you seek support and aid from. (See http://muttaqun.com/auyliya.html) It does not prohibit a Muslim from forming peaceful ties with non-Muslim neighbors, etc. In fact, there is plenty of proof to DO that (form peaceful relations with anyone who does not fight you simply because of your religion). Feel free to ask for the proof if you want it.

Well, its simple. Don't criticize any religion regardless if you believe in it or not because God in Judaism and Christianity don't tell you to judge anyone. Everyone has their rights but criticizing and using a very Holy man of Islam rude and disrespectful is totally offending. Just like if one says something rude to Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) it would offend my brothers of Catholicism/Christianity. Anyway, I really didn't want to offend you in anyway how but todays people are ignorant and arrogant into learning what and why people do this and that but rather get it from zealots, hypocrites or those Media people. Yes, I am Muslim and yes it did offend me but you see we are all humans and created by one supreme God. If you know what I mean.

You have every right to complain about others. The Pope is in a position of leadership and has a higher responsibility to the sensitivities of others!!! He should be leading by example! If not the Pope, then who? Has this become the typical Christian -- hateful and insensitive?

I MOST CERTAINLY WOULD SHOW
"ALL" DUE RESPECT , to followers of
the Galah, IF THEY went back to their
respective Deserts, AND STAYED THERE .

To be FAIR , Yanks & Others would have 2
go back to THEIR JOINTS. Only making
SURE "them" STAYED "there" !

Once one understands , the World is but a
ZOO , you will get the "drift" ......

According to their religion, you are to be hated. Disagreeing with them at all is a one-way ticket to infidel status.

Surah 60:1
"O ye who believe! Choose not My enemy and your enemy for allies. Do ye give them friendship when they disbelieve in that truth which hath come unto you...."
