i have always been under the impresson that a "sin" is something that a person does that is not in accordance with the 10 commandments. i know right from wrong etc...bvut i have often heard people say "thats's a sin" for something that they personally do not agree with, for example, IF i saw someone going hunting, and i don't agree with hunting, is that considered a "sin"? that is just an example so please, no knocks about "what i have against hunting", i dont have anything against hunting or hunters, but, my question is, "by what authority can or does anyone label something that they personally do not agree with, a sin?"

In my opinion, a sin is a doing that negatively affects you or another party. If you lie, it's a sin because you're concealing something important (or not) from someone who needs to know it even if you don't think so. If you keep taking bad stuff and putting it in your system to harm yourself, it's a sin even if some don't know it! If you cheat on someone and sleep with another, you're harming a relationship and society indirectly. This is how I see it. If an act has malicious intent like stealing, you're taking away something from someone... this is a sin. If you neglect your family for a long time, you're harming our social structure and hurting your loved ones... everything can be analysed to see if there is any good to it or not. The ten commandements merely highlight the very very bad sins that are very destructive to us and our surrounding. Just put yourself in other people's shoes and think safe. Frankly, the world we live in is filled with sin and we can always start from within ourselves to make a difference. I admire that you are trying to properly know right from wrong. You're definitely in the right direction because the first step is admitting that almost everything has potential for a sin so best of luck to all of us because it's hard! With regards to the hunting industry, I think that too much of everything (or becoming addicted to this) becomes bad therefore too much hunting of any animal becomes very bad. I don't think hunters want to become a "huntee" at any point of their life so they should think about it. Hope this helps :)

If you personally do not agree with other's actions or behaviors that won't make it a sin. Sin is something that is against the teachings of the religion of Allah. In Islam, most of the sins are mentioned in Quran and Hadith (sayings of prophet Muhammad (pbuh)). Islamic law (Shariah) deals with this.

For example hunting is not a sin in Islam. But killing the hunted animal brutally (by stone for example) is a sin. Because Allah asks us to slaughter animals in a gentle manner, Muslims are recommended to keep their knives sharp so that animal being slaughtered feel less pain. So it depends on various things for something to be sin or otherwise.

The Bible tells us what sin is. I think sometimes the upbringing by our parents influence us as to what sin is. I know people who believe going to a movie is sin. I don't believe that because I can't find that in the Bible. There may be some movies that I would feel it is wrong for me to see because of the language etc but I have no right to tell another person it is a sin for them. I think I do have a right to tell someone that it is a sin to lie and steal etc. Why? Because it is in the Bible. I don't think letting our conscious being our guide will always work because I think we sometimes can train our conscious. In short...if the Bible says it is a sin...it is a sin!

First of all the Bible tells us JUDGE NOT LEST YEA BE JUDGED . The sin factor I think comes about from knowing right from wrong .Mine is my conscience ...Some people do not have a conscience there fore they don't think they do anything wrong .The 10 commandments were instructions for us to live by .We all sin every day in some way ..Sometimes we don't realize it until some one points it out .Hunting in my opinion is ok if you eat what they shoot or give it to some one that will but to just kill it for sport ...No

Actually, the word sin means to miss the mark of perfection. Nobody is perfect, therefore we are all sinners regardless of what acts we perform. The point is that it is impossible to live a sin free life. However Matthew 22 reads:

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 He said to him: “‘You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 The second, like it, is this, ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets.

By obeying these two commands we are NOT ABLE to sin grossly and we show a willingness to be as sinnless as it is possible to be, and God overlooks our "missing the mark of perfection".

God is the source and the authority.
For Roman Catholics we have 3 sources for understanding what God wants us to do.
1. The church in the present. We call this the magisterium.
2. The church in the past. Tradition.
3. Sacred Scripture which supports the teachings in the past and present.
Since all 3 are from God they will not contradict each other.

A sin is anything that is not consistent with the bible, so to understand better you would have to study the bible and agree with the majority of there understanding of the bible. But that is only in the circle of religion that sins count, outside of religion are our laws which steam from the bible as the majority see as fair.

Eve offered Adam the apple. Adam took it,got caught, they both got punished. Man got even by inventing religion. There isn't a single religion invented by a woman.

Jesus came to interpret the law. The law states do not commit adultery. Jesus said if you look at a woman or man and lust in your heart you commit adultery.

The point is that God sees the intent of your heart. Not necessarily what you do but why you do it.

Love in Jesus' name
