I would say it is definitely worth fighting for. Call an attorney right away. Since she did pay for part of the house, she has rights to it. Good luck.

I had a similar situation happen to me, I legally owned two thirds of a property and my mother owned one third, I employed a solicitor and started fighting the case, the stress it caused was really not worth it and I eventually backed down and allowed my mother to have everything, I lost around £80,000 but it was worth it to keep my sanity. My mother is now just a very lonely old woman, I haven't seen her for over 6 years - her gain was also her loss.

Get an attorney to advise you it would be well worth the money. This house is the legacy intended for your wife and her children.

At the time of your mum-in-laws death, the house was not hers to leave to any-body,as the deeds were in her father's name. It's extremely mean of him to take advantage, but i reckon the house is legally his.You cannot leave property that is not legally yours to any-one.You could try the lawers, but i think you would be wasting your money.Sorry.
