can I ask you a question? why did you capitalize "THE LORD GOD"? First off, the is a simple article and adds nothing to your statement when it is all caps. Secondly, why did you say "LORD GOD"? What does that mean? Don't you think that is a tad bit redundant?

Try this version:
"Is mental illness a curse from God or satan?"

Its more concise, easier to understand, and makes you sound more intelligent.

It is not a direct curse, but a result from our being imperfect. Satan was the direct cause of getting Adam and Eve to sin, so he is behind our being imperfect, however, mental illness is a result from imperfection, sickness and death being results. It is not a curse from God, because James 1:13 says "When under trial, let no one say:"I am being tempted by God." For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone." Also at 1 Corinthians 4:4 it talks about the god of this system of things. The scriptures show that Satan is ruling over the governements and with his influence we have all the current badness, which is why we need God's kingdom to remove sickeness like Isaih 33:24 says, "And no resident will say, "I am sick." So don't blame God, he has put in place a way of bringing the solution to our problems.

Let us start by saying that mental illness is not a curse by either God or satan.
There are many reason why mental illnesses occur: biological (genetics), emotional or physical trauma, chemical embalances, etc.

If you or a family member suffers from mental illness, the best course of action is to determine why it is happening (nurture vs nature...is it genetics or is it something that happened to them that caused it). Once this is established, there are wonderful psychiatrists that can help ease the side effects of the mental illness by balancing the chemicals in the brain (yes, using pharmaceutical drugs). Is drugs always the answer? Honestly, no. However, a trained professional can give you other courses of actions to take, depending on the ailment.
If you want more information than that, you will have to provide us with the name of the illness. There are many support groups out there that can also provide a lot of assistance.
Good Luck...

I strongly believe that mental illness is not a curse from God. All sickness comes from Satan. That is what a counselor who was strong in his faith told me.
Mental illness can be brought on my chemical imbalances and it can also be brought on by being a victim of abuse, either as a child or adult, from all sorts of abuse.
Mental illness is just as valid of an illness as is a physical illness. Sometimes we have to take meds to fix our physical ailments, same thing with mental illnesses.
I have borderline personality disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression and anxiety. I used to struggle that I was not any good, not worthy, not loved by anyone, especially God.
But, I believe now, that God has a special place in His heart for people who struggle with mental illness. Don't think of it as a curse. Think of it kind of as a gift. You know what it is like to go thru a mental illness, and you can therefore empathize with other people dealing with the same thing, and be a support to them. Society looks down on mental illness, yes, but only because of their ignorance. They don't always see the special values we hold in our hearts, the innocence of feeling humility and love for other people.
You can IM me, if you have been struggling with mental illness and having trouble accepting it. I did, too, in the beginning. To me, mentally ill people are almost like autistic children who become savants. Savants can play music by ear, if they are blind, and do many other things that are contradictory to their condition. Likewise, I think that people with mental illness see things that healthy people don't. They have more insight that is innocent and pure.

There is also the possibility that it is a gift. A gift that challenges you and others to grow and have compassion. I am not a Christian but I do believe that all things work for a greater good for those who believe in God. In other words, it is only a curse if you view it so. And likewise it is a blessing if you can see beneath its disguise.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Love and blessings

Not a curse. Just a chemical imbalance. Some people are more prone to it than others due to various factors. Genes, the degree of stress in environment, traumatic upbringing or experiences ... etc.
