So far you have seen a bunch of answers from people who have heard about them. How about an answer from someone who owns one? Hey! I own one! I have almost 90,000 miles on mine. It's a 1998. I like the car. Yes, it rides a bit harsh, but it's a small car. It gets anywere from 22-32 miles per gallon, depending on where I drive. The only real problem has been the air conditioning, which hasn't been the most reliable. I have to qualify that by saying that I had to get the expansion valve replaced two years ago, and it worked fine, but then my wife rear-ended someone with the car six months later and possibly damaged the system. Some people have problems with their Neons, like blown head gaskets, paint that peels, plastic headlights that turn hazy because of exposure to the sun, and other things, so you do have to be careful when buying a used one, but unfortunately used is all you can find now since they quit making them. Many of the problems that happen to Neons happen to a lot of different cars. But for the most part, I have had good results. I just keep changing the oil, and the only major expenses have been struts and tires, which need to be replaced on all cars at one time or another anyway. Neons are one of the most popular cars Dodge made.

For the last two to three years, the Neon was a pretty good car. In the beginning, for a few years, they had bad problems with their headgaskets that were blowing all the time. As with any car, you should maintain it on a regular basis. The Neon's gave pretty decent gas mileage and were reliable.

They were ok cars. I thought the ride was stiff. My parents had one, they liked it. Sold it when it was out of warranty, bought a Dodge Cirrus. Someone in Maine called my parents in July asking about their former Neon. Wanting to know if they had any problems, whether to buy it from a dealer. Dad said buy it, good car to have.
Good luck.

I love Dodge Neons. Plymouth makes them too. Great little car on gas, and runs terrific. I had one, and I'm gonna get another soon. Good Luck!

If you are still seeing alot of them around 2 or 3 years after they stopped making them, it speaks for itself that they are an ok car.

I have had my Neon since 2000. It has 121,000 miles on it. I haven't had any trouble with it. I get about 30 mpg. I plan on getting another one when this one finally quits.
