muslims claim that a deep study of the koran will make one realise that islam is a good faith, and thats what they always keep saying. while working in saudi i got hooked on islam and studied it in a islamic collage in riyad. the more i studied and read the book the more i wondered as to how any thinking person let alone a muslim can honestly say the prophet muhommed was a good man.
if i dont like a man who molested a young girls, murdered, practiced polygamy and lied, then why should i say that muhommed was a good man?
i am by no means a religious person who believes that all religions are myths, but what bothers me is how 1 billion muslims could have been fooled by islam.
or are they just brain washed?
(can i have some answers based on knowledge and commonsense. please do not hit back at me with Religious or supernatural stuff about god's , because i am not intrested in that stuff)

Yes I would say they are brainwashed, but they also grow up in the part of the world they live in and probably have no choice. Seems like anything or anyone that is against their ideas dies. So in that sense it is possible to feel sorry for them, they don't have the option to know the truth or even make up their own minds.

What a great question. It can hardly be answered sufficiently on Yahoo answers. I will give it my best shot though. It will be a bit detailed. I find that most here do not care to read more than a few lines. I am going around your question rather than head on..

If truth is relative, then the statement that truth is relative is an absolute truth and would be self defeating statement by proving that truth is not relative. But, if truth is absolute, then the statement "truth is absolute" is true and not self defeating. It is true that truth exists. It is true that truth will not contradict itself as we have just seen. In fact, it is absolutely true that you are reading this here and now.

If we can see that there is such a thing as truth in the world, then we could also see that there can be spiritual truth as well. It is not absurd to believe in spiritual absolutes anymore than physical or logical absolutes.

Even the statement that all religions lead to God is a statement held to be a spiritual absolute by many people. This simply demonstrates that people do believe in spiritual truth. Why? Because truth exists. However, not all that is believed to be true actually is true. Therefore, all belief systems cannot be true since they often contradict each other in profound ways.

Christianity teaches that there is only one God and you cannot become a god. Islam teaches that Jesus is not God in flesh where Christianity does. Jesus cannot be both God and not God at the same time. Some religions teach that we reincarnate while others do not. Some teach there is a hell and others do not. They cannot all be true. If they cannot all be true, it cannot be true that all religions lead to God.

Furthermore, it means that some religions are, at the very least, false in their claims to reveal the true God (or gods). Remember, truth does not contradict itself. If God exists, He will not institute mutually exclusive and contradictory belief systems in an attempt to get people to believe in Him. God is not the author of confusion (1 Cor. 14:33).

Therefore, it is reasonable to believe that there can be an absolute spiritual truth and that not all systems can be true regardless of whether or not they claim to be true. There must be more than a mere claim.

Why should anyone trust in Christianity over Islam, Buddhism, Mormonism, or anything else? It is because there are absolute truths, because only in Christianity is there accurate fulfilled prophecies of a coming Messiah.

Only in Christianity do we have the extremely accurate transmission of the eyewitness documents (gospels) so we can trust what was originally written. Only in Christianity do we have the person of Christ who claimed to be God, performed many miracles to prove His claim of divinity, who died and rose from the dead, and who said that He alone was the way the truth and the life.

All this adds to the legitimacy and credibility of Christianity above all other religions -- all based on the person of Jesus. If follows that if it is all true about what Jesus said and did, then all other religions are false because Jesus said that He alone was the way, the truth, and the life and that no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).

It could not be that Jesus is the only way and truth and other religions also be the truth.
Either Jesus is true and all other religions are false or other religions are true and Jesus is false. There are no other options. I choose to follow the risen Lord.

there are some basic questions you have not asked yourself, like where is it written that monogamy is a good idea, not the Bible I can tell you that. The exceptance that monogamy is a good thing shows you need a good dose of history reading. Also the young girl question is similar. In the 19th century most women were married b4 age 16. If not theywere called old maids. God made woman capable of reproducing at age 10 or 12 so who is it has the unrealistic view point. Westerners have embraced the idea that women should be able to participate as equals in the workforce have a career etc. Look at the family problems that has caused, so is it a good idea for most people?? Ask did he murder in some form of self defence or any kind of defence?? are you sure he lied, never heard bout that. You need not say he was good you just need to know you do not know much and wait till you know some history and have lived a while b4 you even begin to make such judgements, and this from a devout christian. Gahndi, one of the most developed minds of our time said he was a christian and a muslem so think a while b4 you say something that makes you look foolish.

I can understand that if you have questions and you can not find the right person to answer you become more confused as you read religious texts. This is true for all the religions. people generally have opinion about other people that they are in the same situation or have the same ideas as they, themself do. SO YOU BECOME CONFUSED AND YOU THINK OTHER PEOPLE ARE IN THE SAME CONFUSİON and despite of this they still believe in Islam. But , no I am queite sure and happy about my religion and Prophet, because I had many oppotunity to ask what I wonder about Islam and people who taught us Islam gave satisfactory answers to my question If you really want to learn insallah God give you chance to come acroos with true persons. All the best : )

First i an not the most intelligent but with a 136IQ i am smarter than 98%.I know that most follow islam because that is what has been drilled into their heads their whole life. Most people follow the religion they were taught.Converts to Islam seem to be people who were oppressed and feel empowered by that religion. I myself have run the gambit i have been conservative christian, holiness christian, atheist, and now i have reached a point in my study that all are right and all are wrong.I believe in a god .Life is too complex to just happen.I am studying the heart as i have been led ,i believe the heart has no place in evolution it must have been created. The leap from no heart to heart would have killed anything trying to grow one.

Way back then it was not uncommon for men to have more than one wife. What about some of the people in the Old Testament? Many of them had multiple wives and concubines. When Sara could not conceive, she gave her handmaiden to Abraham to father a child with. Solomon had mutiple wives. David had a man killed so he could marry the man's wife. The Old Testament is also quite bloody in places. Right now in the current Torah readings, the Children of Israel are wandering around the desert destroying anyone in their path who will not let them go through their country. This was the way things were done then. Read the Old Testament and you will see what I mean.

Now I am not Muslim, in fact I am Jewish. But I am really getting tired of people denigrating other people's beliefs. The Dalai Lama keeps saying that we should all just try to get along, and he is right.

Is not brainwashing, as you call it, a large part of any religion? Upon reading the bible the christian god comes across as war like, vengeful, often cruel, supporting poor treatment of women, promoting incest, mob violence, and on an on. While I have not studied the koran I have read many parts of it. Both are much more similar than they are different. Same basic package, just different wrappings on the outside. Isn't brainwashing the same thing no matter what the subject matter is? Islam, Christianity, Hindu, Budhist, etc........it's all the same notion.

Agreed. I keep asking the followers of Islam, "Where is the peace in Islam?" and never get an answer. Historically, the followers of Islam are very bad and violent. Their violence and conquests go back to the foundational days of their faith. Allah was the moon god among many pagan gods worshiped at the time. That is why you see the crescent moon on top of mosques. For more information, I defer to the link below.

In many countries where Islam is the predominant religion, all life revolved around the Mosque and the dictates of the imams therein. Not being part of this "community" means being ostracized and outcast. In my studies of Arabic language and culture, having this happen to a person is worse than if the person were to suffer a violent death.

I personally think you didn't study Islam and just trying to fool some people here like yourself into believing that Islam is a bad religion. Among those who converted to Islam were learned scientists and people of knowledge. I am sure their judgement is better than yours!
