My diet demands fish/seafood daily but in Central Europe this is expensive. Even though I am lucky to have access to foods imported exclusively for some Americans who do jobs Europeans consider too dangerous and dirty for them to do themselves, including Ahi and MahiMahi and butterfly shrimp, which are good, I still wonder if anything like Soya cakes or some other food has some of the benefits of fish. The widespread deficiency of iodine in European diets causes a lot of thyroidism here, for example. Iodine is high in fish. (Also in salt manufactured for the US market but not in the European market.) Ideas?

well when i think of fish, i think: protein and vitamin b12 so i would guess any food that has both of those can be considered. how about plain peanut butter (w/out sugar)?

Fish Oil tablets. Omega 3

No, there is no real substitute for fish.

It depends on the reason you are on that diet. Mainly the healthy fat that is in it. Substituting it with shrimp or something like that is not an option. You could try fish oil pills but...that's even more expensive.

My doctor has me taking Fish Oil pills. They are not expensive and found in the vitamin section. They are full of the Omega 3 fatty acids, just like fish.

You can buy fish oil (Usually made from norwegian cod) at any health-food store. These contain all the mega-3-fatty acids and benefits of eating fish themselves.

If thats not the substitute you're talking about, protein can be found in many places. =D

a can of tuna costs 30 cents in Europe. Gee !!!!

sardines and canned salmon...herring, kippers and pickled whitefish.

frozen fish and shrimp is always an option as well.
