Fastest dog over a short distance is a greyhound. It can run at 43mph. Salukis and whippets are also very fast, but greyhounds are used in racing for a reason! A saluki has longer hair than a greyhound and this adds wind resistance, and so it is almost, but not quite as fast as the greyhound.
If you mean the domestic cat vs the domestic dog, it depends on the breed. Cats are more agile than dogs even if they are not as quick as some breeds.

The fastest dog is a Saluki, an Egyptian hunting dog. It can run and a great speed and up to 55 miles without stopping. Not sure about the cat category. Good Luck!

Dogs are faster and can run longer but cats are able to change direction quickly. Dogs can't do that as fast.

Actually a saluki runs at 40mph or 55kph which is the same speed as a greyhound! Cats are not as fast but are more agile, esp when our greyhound is chasing them!
