Most people think of enlightenment as a kind of magical attainment, a state of being close to perfection. At this level, one can perform amazing feats, see past and future lives of others, and tune in to the inner workings of the universe. This may be possible for a number of special beings, but for most of us enlightenment is much more in line with what Suzuki Roshi describes. It means having a quality of "beginningness," a fresh, simple, unsophisticated view of things. To have "beginner's mind" in how we approach things is a major teaching. In many ways, the process of enlightenment is clearing away the thoughts, beliefs, and ideas that cloud our ability to see things as they really are in their pristine form.

The human realm is the place for achieving enlightenment primarily because it is where our souls have the greatest opportunities to grow, interact and experience the results of karma. Short of living a monastic lifestyle however, enlightenment isn't a realistic option for most people. Spiritual awareness and awakening are the first step to nirvana. Seek self knowledge and karma will guide you on the path to eternal bliss. And I should point out that Buddhism isn't a religion in the conventional sense but a school of philosophy and practice.

Your path to enlightenment happens every day, learning from and correcting your mistakes, seeing, understanding helping the sufferings of those in need around you, respecting life and living a life of moderation ie. the medium path.

Sure you can, look at Buddha himself.
After enlightenment, he teach the other the path to enlightenment, but it is up to individual to practice it.
