That description is not very flattering of a dog you love. Are you giving him table scraps, feeding him cheap food. Sounds like he needs a good diet with digestable food. There are good premium foods without alot of filler. You actually feed the dog
less, all get digested and there is less weight. Iams and
Eukanuba age good but I feed my dog frozen raw meet several tabs Your dog may have another so see you vet and use the line.
The vet may recommend Science Diet since the food buys their way into the office. Alot of vets don't like the raw food. There
is good holistic food. Don't settle for crap and and check with the vet about other causes of gas. Take time 4 days to change over any food. Check their stool. It has done wonders for my scottie but my westie had blood in her stool, so I give her 1 pellet some
time. Go to a boutique store. They can really help. Usually this
food makes them less hungry.

My first thought would be food. What are you feeding him, and have you switched brands recently? If you are feeding $3.99/25lb bag, you deserve a gassy dog. Poor dog on the other hand is probably miserable with gas.

stick with one type of food only. dogs have sensitive stomachs and if their food is being switched up continuously, their bodies cannot catch up. Switch to a solid dry dog food that designed for sensitive stomachs (try nutro dog food with oatmeal for sensitive stomachs). Mix in his old dog food with this new dog food and keep doing that for the entire week (start out with more of his dog food than the new dog food, and gradually fade out his old stuff with the new stuff). This way your dog's stomach will have time to adapt to the new dog food. I hope this helps.

try dry food.
also if a dog eats a lot at one time it can cause gas.
try feeding smaller portions several times a day. if he's old you should try a senior dog food.
good luck

Have you changed his food or started giving him more extras? Go to the Pet Store, they do have things you can give your dog to help ease the gas. Do not get him anything for humans, their stomachs are different from ours, and it could kill him.
Believe it or not...I googled it, and I found you some links...hope they can help as well!!!
Poor "Farticus"!!!!

Go to PetSmart and explain the problem; they will probably recommend a change of dog food.

What do you feed him? Try some dry food. I feed mine Beneful dry weight control (bassets tend to be fat). The only time mine get gassy is when I've fed them table scraps or moist food.

provided you're not feeding him bargain basement dog food, try a supplement to his diet, such as "total-zymes", or "barley dog". they're great supplements to help this problem. i use total-zymes, and it is more expensive than barley dog. not sure if barley dog works, but i know total zymes does for my dog.
