Your dog could have a number of things wrong with it including skin parasites like mange. But it could also be hypothyroidism or other metabolic problems. Best thing is to get to the vet and have a look so your dog can be healthy and happy. If you leave it, it is not likely to get better, unless of course what you are describling is normal shedding. Some dogs blow their coats a couple of times a year and it seems like you are up to your ears in dog hair.
But if you think that is not the case, get the vet to check.

Could be any number of things. If it's leaving bald spots, it could be mange in which case a vet should be consulted. As others have said, malnutrition could be the cause or it could be something as simple as the pup could just be shedding out to his winter coat.

Your dog maybe in need of a vitamin to prevent too much hair loss. A vet can have a good look at your dog. Its all worth it.

It might be "blowing" its coat... dogs with undercoats blow the undercoats in little lumps... you can pull them off... and it should look like little cotton balls... I have a Husky and he blows his coat twice a year... I also have a lab, with a much different coat then the husky... and he blows his coat as well... if its coming out to where you can see skin... you might want to take the animal to the vet... (allergies or poor diet)!!! Good luck
