Hello there,

I just started shooting and I had more than one comment about the quality of my photos ( using my 2MP mobile camera).

would be really appreciated if u can advice about what camera I should buy to enhance the quality of my photos.

something good, reliable, some sort of prof, great quality, macro options, zoom, night shoots and yet not too expensive, any ideas on that?

most appreciated.

Depends what you are going to use it for. For simple pictures, you could go with one off ebay. I picked up a dc t-50 5.2 mp for 80 bucks off eBay last year. It works great. The more pixels the better clarity the picture. Some people will tell you for a certain size photo you need # pixels. It is not entirely true. If you edit your photos like me (make them bigger, crop them, recenter the subject), you will need higher mega pixels to compensate for the ones you take out.

One of the most important and confusing is the optical versus digital zoo. You need optical zoom. Digital zoom is the camera compensating for distance and stretching the picture - create a lossy photo. Optical zoom is mechanical and not digital.

The reason you need a zoom is that digital cameras with an optical zoom often allow you to stand closer to a subject and still fit it in the shot much like a wide angle lens would. Ever have to keep walking backwards to keep people in the photo. This is why you need optical zoom.

I would also check what type of battery is used. Throways versus lithium prepackaged cells. Throways (AA) make your camera very heavy. Lithiums are light, rechargeable and often are not that expensive when bought through discounters and eBay.

The Last thing that you should think of is size. I big camera looks cool but you can't fit in your pocket. I prefer a smaller one that I can take out at any time during a trip.

The not too expensive part is the big catch here. There are many different cameras to choose from, however, trying to do so on the cheap, you won't get a very good camera.

These days, anything over 6 megapixels is pretty nice.
There are a few websites where you can even purchase high end, refurbished cameras, where by "Refurbished", there is a good chance they are simply talking about cameras that have been opened, and returned, only to be inspected by the company and repackaged.

Do a google search on Wholesale electronics +"digital camera" and see what you can come up with.

I have a Canon Power Shot G3 with 4 MP. I think it takes great pictures. I think the only reason you would need one higher than 4 MP is if you are going to enlarge picture larger than an 8x10. When I bought mine I just researched on line, and found one that best fit my needs. Mine does have macro options that I love using. I bought mine because it had the option of manual settings as well as automatic point and shoot. I bought this camera about 4 years ago, so maybe you'd be able to find one around on ebay or camera shop for a low price.

I have a friend who is a photographer, and his advice is to go for a manufacturer who makes good lens systems. I have a Canon, which is about 3 years old now, so a bit behind the curve, but had excellent reviews at the time. My friend told me it was about the best point and click camera on the market at that time. Things have moved on since then, but the more megapixels the better.

Nikon CoolPix series are just fine for you. There are very good cheap models. I am using Nikon CoolPix 3500 and it fits all my needs. I got it for 150$ last year, today is cheaper I think. It have long lasting battery for over a 100 shots with flashlight, memorized settings for various scene ocasions, nice LCD display and removable CompactFlash memory with a limit of 1 GB. You will get all what you need in one single package except of larger memory. Nikon is making very good cameras nowadays.
