If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

It can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. I am expecting no. 3 and no. 2 is still using the cot, so I got a perfectly good cot from a charity shop for £5. And the day we come home from the hospital it will go straight to a cot. A baby's actual requirements are not expensive it is all the rubbish that you are made to believe you need that adds up. Ask around for stuff loads of people have it crammed in the attic. A suitable buggy can be got for less than £100 and get a car seat that lasts from 0 - 4 rather than heavy expensive travel systems. A lot of stuff can be got from NCT nearly new sales at a fraction of the price.

Depends on the baby, how you feed, where you buy your bits and pieces for it, etc. there isn't a golden figure. They cost what they cost.. if you imagine a baby getting through approx 6 nappies a day, and a pack of 88 pampers cost £10 from Asda.. so 6 x roughly 11p each = 66p a day, 66p x 7 days = £4.62 a week. So £240 a year, divide by half to make 6 months = £120 just for your nappies.
Don't even get me started on formula..

christ.... and I'm expecting my second in January?? I must be mad!

If this your first you will be tempted to but all sorts of nice stuff for your baby that you may not need.If you are having a baby shower this may help you to attain some things without your expense.

There are some things that you can buy at second hand stores like buggies and cots.Invest in a good car seat as I do not recommend getting this second hand unless you know for sure that it fits your vehicle perfectly. If you are not driving try getting a travel system that is not too bulky and heavy.

A cot mobile may be a nice thing but a CD with relaxing music can be just as good.

It is in my opinion that most things like baby bouncers and pacifiers are not necessary but this is my own experience.I bought all this glo- in- the dark pacis and my son just spat them out.

Remember you are "training" your baby so that both can be comfortable.

It is cheaper to breastfeed.Breast milk as all of its benefits health Wise but it also helps out on the pocket as well.

You will know your budget. If you can afford to buy what you want but if on a strict budget do not be tempted to buy things that will only last for the first 3 months i.e moses basket, pram

Bedding and all fabrics if getting second hand should be washed using detergent for baby skin.

If still in early term start buying things little but little and look out for good sales.

Once the baby comes if you are in the U.K. you can buy supermarket brand nappies as these could be up to £3 less that brand name and wipes up to a £1 cheaper.

Buy outfits that you can mix and match so it may seem that you will have more items of clothes but at a cheaper price.Use or try to obtain as many freebies and coupons as you possibly can.Sign up to the pampers website as they also send you coupons.

Hope this helps

no-one can tell u how much it will cost because it depends on what u want for ur baby. when i had mine, i spent only 250 on the essentials, cot, pram, steriliser, stock of new born nappies, and toiletries, and clothes
i was lucky and had family which could help which made a difference (althought they didn't buy anything, just collected stuff from their babies) the trick is to buy it as u go, ie, highchair at 8 months, walker at 8 months, next car seat 9 months...
to save money get clothes from primark, QD's etc, they're not in them for long! dont buy to many of one thing, and as for blankets buy the wool and give ya mum the job! (she'll love it)

good luck, and despite what many people say, they aren't that expensive at all!

If you breastfeed.

They cost about $20 a week in diapers and wipes.

Have a baby shower and that should get you enough of the essentials to get you through 6 months.

my baby is now 7months old and to be honest i dont know how much she cost me for the first 6months, if you sat and add it all up you would have a shock but you dont notice it at the time, you need a list 1st of what they need:
nappies, nappy sacks, baby wipes, travel system, babygrows, vests, socks, outfits, blankets, cot, cot quilt cover and sheets, johnsons toiletries, formula milk(unless breastfeeding), toys, dummies, calpol, baby bouncer, moses basket, sound monitors, bottles, stereliser, flannel things (for winding), and there are bound to be things i have forgotten! but just roughly imagine the cot and travel system could cost you around £400.00.
