I like the theory there is a 12th planet that travels through our solar system at a larger orbit. Supposedly, they had sex
with Earth babes, and their offspiring were tall like the people
of that other planet.
After I read about this, I came across a scripture in Job, where
God is bragging about making the heavenly bodies. In one verse He asks, "Can you bring Mazzaroth forth in his season."

nep̱iyliym: A masculine noun used only in the plural meaning giants. The celebrated, puzzling passage where this term is first used is Gen_6:4 which merely transliterates the Hebrew word into English as Nephilim. These beings evidently appeared on the earth in the ancient past when divine beings cohabited with woman, and Nephilim, the mighty men or warriors of great fame, were the offspring. This huge race of Nephilim struck fear into the Israelite spies who had gone up to survey the land of Canaan (see Num_13:31-33). The sons of Anak, a tall race of people, came from the Nephilim (Num_13:33; cf. Deu_2:10-11; Deu_9:2; Jos_15:14). Eze_2:21, Eze_2:27 may have the Nephilim in mind, possibly equating them with the mighty men or mighty warriors in the passage. These beings were not divine but only at best great, powerful men.
Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. 7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
Genesis 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

In the time before the flood the Bible says that disobedient angels took human form and lived on the Earth with women. They were the Nephilim. The Nephilim had children with the women. These children were unusually large and very evil. Gen 6:4 "The Nephilim proved to be in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of the true God continued to have relations with the daughters of men and they bore sons to them, they were the mighty ones, the men of fame."
Genesis goes on to tell us of the wickedness on earth at this time. Hence God destroyed all the disobedient people and in the flood. The disobedient angels abandoned their human form and God took away their power to ever take human form again.
The Nephilim are also mentioned in Numbers, by the the 12 spies who were sent into Canaan. At this time the term "Nephilim" was used to describe the strong and powerful people who lived there.

It sounds like a fragment of an older myth that found it's way into the canonical bible, like many others/
'Giants in the earth' they were supposedly the hybrid offspring of 'sons of god' (angels?) and mortal women. Mighty men, heroes of old. It's a very strange passage - there is nothing in it that inherently implies the Nephlim were particularly bad guys, but many fundies interpret it to mean demons, or equate them with the demi-gods of other cultures, like the Greeks.
Of course, the Von-Danekins have a field day with this!
