So my brother was using my mac to put songs on his ipod, and then he tells me it's being all weird...

and there is the black screen asking for a login and password,
and saying Darwin.

My password and login doesn't work

How do I go about fixing this problem?
Also, will fixing this problem affect files that I have on my mac?

Hi there...consider using your original Apple software restore CD that came with the Mac as you restart. At the start up, hold down the "C" key for a few seconds to boot up to the disk. Run Disk Utility's First Aid to "Verify Permissions" to find the errors. If it does find them, next select "Repair Permissions" and then restart your Mac. If the problem still exists you may need to do a clean reinstall. If you have files to back up and were able to get in with the CD startup use an external drive to back all those files then do the reinstall.
