Who was spanked growing up and how?

I saw a question regarding spanking this morning. I am totally against spanking. but it got me to thinking about growing up in the 1960's when it was an acceptable form of punishment. I had to lay over a bed and get spanked on the bare behind with a belt. I am curious to know if there were others punished in this way, especially people over 40.

I'm 26 yrs old, I don't have children either. But I have nieces and nephews and don't hit them either because I'm not their parent. Spankings and whatever form of punishment the parents should do to their children, not someone else.

Actually I've never been physically punished by my parents. My mother never hit me neither did my father. I guess I never gave them that big of a problem to cause a smack or spanking. My brothers on the other hand were badasses. And I mean bad.

My parents didn't beat them either, instead my mother would go after their favorite things. Or she would threaten us with our grandfather. Who was raised in the old days. He wouldn't hesitate getting a belt or switch or even a paddle.

My mom though, when she went after your favorite things, she didn't take them away she destroyed them. My one brother's favorite was his bike, he had built it himself, painted and everything. He had a disagreeement with mom and left basically after calling her a b'tch. He disappeared for 2 days with his favorite bike, knowing that mom was going to call grands for calling her a b'tch. When he finally did call mom had already called the cops reporting him as a runaway. Had family searching for him everything, he told mom he would come home if she promised not to hit him and as long as she promised not to call grands, mom promised.

So anyway he came home, mom kissed him and hugged him happy he was ok and he was alive, once everyone calmed down, mom went outside and called everything outside to the yard where my brother's bike was at. She was standing there with a sledge hammer and the bike was laid on the ground. She lifted that sucker and hammer the bike to pieces. My brother begged her than to stop and just hit him and mom than said'No because I promised I wasn't going to hit you'. But anyway the bike was done for.

And that's how my mom handled us, she didn't care what it was, we did something bad she destroyed whatever and made sure we were all there watching her destroy it. We learned from than on don't piss mom off but once in a while someone just had to do it.

I saw spanked only once in my life where it left bruises. Mum used a switch. Hurt like hell but it didnt teach me a lesson. haha.. I played truant from school and got caught. When I was older I was more wiser and never got caught again. hahah...

When I was at Primary school, I think it was about 1976 a few of us got in trouble, boys and girls, we were made to stand at the front of the whole class and the teacher got out a big old ruler and we all got 5 hits on each hand, the girls on the palms and the boys on the knuckles. Ouch....

A spank on the bum with my hand was all my son got from me and I think the last time I did that he was still wearing a nappy(diaper), so he didnt even feel it.

He is 7 now and told me the other day that when I spanked him it never hurt and when I questioned him why he cried then , he said 'because you yelled at me and that upset me'.... hmmmm clever little man.

I would never ever use a belt, board or switch, I think that is classed as abuse, but a small smack on the butt for being naughty wont hurt them and wont be something that needs therapy later on in life.

I am 28 and when I was younger my parents spanked us with belts, racing bats (things jockeys use on horses), boards, the metal part of the fly swatter. Basically anything they could inflict pain on us with. Do I spank my children yes. I only spank when the issue at hand needs it. Most of the time they get time outs and things taken away and grounding but depending on the severity of the issue depends on whether or not they get a spanking. I do not spnak over petty things. I do spank when they steal, put holes in my walls and are abusive to each other on purpose. They usually get 2 to 3 swats with the belt on botton with thier clothes on. Time outs in our house dont usually work well because my childrn have adhd and so standing in one spot for any time longer then 2 seconds is hard!! So we take toys away favorite books away and take away the xbox time and no tv time. Things like that. Do I like spanking my kids no but some times they need to a spanking. That is all part of parenting really.

I am not over 40, but growing up if I did wrong I got spanked with a belt ot a paddle my dad made from an old oak tree he cut down..it sure did hurt at the time, but now that i am a mother myself, I see that without those spankings I would prbably be in as much trouble as the kids of today are. In todays world there is no punishment with kids. Time out is just a tap on the hand and a gentle "no no dont do that now"...Me personally if my kid does something wrong and it warrants a spanking, yes he'll get one. Throwing himself in the floor to throw a tamtrum for example, hitting me, showing off in public..these are good examples of why I got spanked and my kid does to. It only take 1 time with him. You wont see my kid doing any of this. I have a friend who rarely spanks and her son throse tatrums all the time, she sends him to his room he'll come out happy for a while til he dont get his way again. Now in school--no way--I should be as my son's parent the only one to spank him.

I was punished in the same way at times growing up, but I am not against spanking in very rare instances (although the belt might be a bit excessive.)

i am 49 years old, grew up and live in texas and i was whipped with a belt, fully clothed and i got the message every time. i spanked my children when they were younger everytime i threatened to, as a result they knew i meant what i said. they are both teens now and i havent spanked either of them for several years now, however i do remind them that i can and i will if i have to.

I was spanked justifiably until I was 13. It was anything from a sharp slap to my butt to an all-it pants-down spanking on the bare.

Did it scare me for life - not a chance. I deserved every smack I received, and probably a few I didn't receive.

I am 25 years old. I think that spanking with a belt is horrible. However, I did get a smack on my butt a few, but only a few times from my mother when I was little. It did not scar me for life. In fact, I think that it was perfectly fine that she did that. But you know what she used to do when we were in public? If I was being bad she used to tell me she was going to take down my pants and smack my butt in public!! Haha, it worked.. Trust me , she never had to do it!! (And I highly doubt that she ever would have)!!

I was never spanked by my parents and only once by my Aunt. But I spank my kids. Not often, but they are respectful children. I think that's what's wrong with a lot of these kids out here....they need a spanking....parents are scared to lay down the law. All the time out crap is just not working....

I am 45 & was spanked as a kid! God made your butt to sit on & get paddled as needed!!!!! It doesn't happen anymore & that's to bad, kids know this wont happen. Look at society now a days, NO RESPECT! I have grown up to be just fine, when i got spanked i had it coming,yet i learned not to do whatever it was i had done, again!

I think that my dad spanked my brothers more than my sister and I but I remember him doing it in the bathroom over the tub! In the 60's like you said I remember the teacher paddling kids in front of the whole class-which is SO WRONG! I can't believe they got away with it!
