It all begins with a healthy diet ( Dry Food is preferred ) dry food provides a cleansing effect on your dog's teeth. You can use a human toothbrush, but it must be soft...you can make it the softest by allowing it to soak in warm water for thirty minutes or so.
How to brush your Dog's Teeth: (Good luck!)
Step 1 - Select an appropriate time.
Find a quiet, convenient time when you and your dog are both relaxed.
Step 2 - Acquaint your dog with the process.
For the first few sessions don't even use a toothbrush. Hold your dog the same as when you are cuddling her. Gently stroke the outside of her cheeks with your finger. After she becomes comfortable with that, place a dab of toothpaste on your finger and let her taste it. We usually suggest starting with poultry flavored toothpaste, because pets like the taste...see link listed in sources.
Step 3 - Introduce the Toothbrush
Place a small amount of toothpaste on the brush. In a slow circular motion, brush one or two teeth and the adjoining gum line. The purpose of this step is to get your dog accustomed to the feel of the brush, not necessarily brush all of the dog's teeth in one fall swoop!
Step 4 - Begin Brushing
Over the next several days, gradually increase the number of teeth brushed. It is important to eventually brush the rear teeth where plaque and tartar have a greater tendency to accumulate. Go slowly and gently.. Stop brushing when you decide to stop, before your dog begins to fuss. If she learns to dislike the procedure and finds out that more fussing makes you stop quicker, then this brushing business is going to get harder, not easier.
Build up to about 30 seconds per side. Dogs don't get much tartar on the inside surfaces of their teeth, so you only need to worry about the outside surfaces Be sure to brush the big teeth way in back.
Make tooth brushing a pleasurable experience
Proceed slowly and gently. Stop each session while it is still fun and lavishly praise your dog afterwards. She will soon start looking forward to tooth brushing and it will become a pleasant activity for both of you.
Step 5: A regular dental check up at least once a year is still very important. My dog would let me brush for about twenty deconds before she grew too excited, so I still had her teeth professionally cleaned at least once a year.

Yes you can use a human toothbrush - just make sure it's a really soft one. You do need to use toothpaste made for dogs, though. It's formulated for dogs with enzymes in it that dogs need.
The way to train her is just to be patient, gentle and persistent. Have her lying comfortably on her side is probably best, and in the beginning you can just brush the front teeth - being very gentle. When she gets a little more used to it, brush the back teeth as well. Don't worry if the gums bleed a little at first, that will stop.

You start out in the beginning by gradually looking at their teeth by pulling back the dogs lips and saying teeth as you do this. when the dog gets use to this then carefully open the dogs mouth and look at the teeth again saying teeth teeth. Then you can start to introduce the human tooth brush and insert the brush in the dogs mouth slowly and brush a few teeth Again saying teeth over and over. This will lead up to longer times the dog will get use to this over time and brushing will become easier and easier. Never use human tooth paste you can use the type that is made for dogs or you can use backing soda and water to brush with

Start by using your finger to rub your dogs gums. Do this gently. This allows your dog to become accustomed to something foreign in its mouth. Never use human toothpaste. It's not designed to be swallowed and will make the dog sick. Change to a fingertip brush or animal toothbrush without anything on it. Then eventually you'll be able to add canine toothpaste. I've been doing my dogs that way since I got them. I'm on dogs number 4, 5 and 6, so it definitely works.

$150 is a bargain for a dental cleaning. This includes the IV fluids, the preoperative blood screening, the ultrasonic cleaning, polishing, x-rays, anesthetic, extractions if necessary and Everything??? This is WAY cheaper than it would cost to get your teeth cleaned and it wouldn't include any of the things listed above except the actual cleaning and polishing. Evidently you have no idea what actually goes into dental cleanings. As for your breath freshener idea. Think of it this way-- if the only dental care you had for your Entire life starting at about age 40 was to chew one stick of tartar control gum per day, how long do you think it would be before your teeth rotted out of your head??? No, there isn't a viable alternative for actual dental care.

I'm not sure how to train the dog to let you... You should NOT use human toothpaste on the dog!!! Just like you should NOT use human shampoos on dogs, because it is to harsh on their skin... You should let the dog taste the doggie toothpaste before you start brushing... then they will think it is a treat... You also might want to check with the vet or local groomer they offer dental services for you pup!!! My husky just got his done last week... Good Luck!!!

Yes you can use human toothbrush. But they are selling toothbrush that dog uses, because the shape is different.
By the way tell you some jokes:
-Doctor! I have a serious problem, I can never remember what i just said.
-When did you first notice this problem?
-What problem?
One more joke:
A guy calls his vet and says "What should I do with my cat?Vet says "What do you mean? Guy says "I had a leak in my lawnmowers gas tank and the cat drank the gas. Then the cat began to run around and around the yard, climbed a tree. then fell out of the tree stiff. Vet says "Is the cat dead? Guy replies "nope he ran out of gas.
Last of all just want to tell you that whatever you do, just don't give up. Also you must love and care for the people around you. In that way they will also show you the love that you show to them. Just be yourself and happy everyday. Wish you all the best and good luck!!
