To my knowledge not a single person has asked for the death of the Pope. For those of you who claim:
-that the popes life has been threatened,
-an assassination has been called for,
-a fatwa has been placed against him,
-contract killers are out to get him etc, please tell me exactly who has said this, and tell me the source of your information so I can check it out.

Please answer the question people. I have read many posts this morning claiming people have demanded the Pope be killed. I am asking those people to tell me who has said that the pope should be killed. Crotch cricket and Jenny should answer this question, but to name a few.

Thank you apermal for your direct answer. It has emerged that hardline cleric Sheikh Abubakar Hassan Malin told worshippers at his mosque to hunt down and kill whoever offended the Prophet Mohammed. It seems as a result gunmen have shot dead an elderly Italian nun and her bodyguard in the Somali capital Mogadishu. As a Muslim I am deeply saddened by this foul crime and I pray that no other person be harmed. Those who feel that it is part of the Islamic teachings to kill innocents are surely mistaken. Islam is a religion of peace, I believe that dialogue is better than violence. Yes, we can fight oppression and aggression around the world as we are commanded in the Quran, we are commanded to use the pen, one of the most peaceful ways of achieving global results and understanding.

Hi
Its an Islamic cleric in Somalia who has called for the Pope to be killed. The report came in on the newswires as a confirmed report only a few hours ago. What's more, the head of the largest mosque in India, the Jama Masjid, has asked all Muslims to retaliate in such a way that would force the Pope to apologize. I wonder what that means.

They should better call off a fatwa to the press that only takes a small portion of the speech of the pope and so gives a wrong impression of what was said.
He quoted a east-roman emperor but it was more to show how men thought before on Christian and Muslim side. Some alineas later the real message is clear : more dialog between the twe great religions.

The Pope should not have said what he said, a man in his position should know better! The Pope apologized and that should be the end of it, although I think that if the situation was reversed the catholics would not be very forgiving about it!!
Sorry to say that one of your answerers "sunnyvaledave" is such an idiot, I live in Italy and I know that the Italian's could not and will not send the Muslims away, I think people like him should be sent away to a deserted place so others don't have to listen to his crap!!!

There's a religion, popular in Northern Ireland and parts of the US, that has been advocating killing popes for centuries.
If I gave a speech and quoted from Calvin's writings, the press would report "Old knowall says 'kill the pope'".

If they have called for him to be killed, there may be a certain Cleric from Somalia. But on another note, remember God does not need men to defend Him or His true Prophets. God will judge sinners and give eternal life to those who truly know Him. Do you know Him or are you just following a religion? What if its wrong? Ask God ( who is real) and is able to manifest Himself to you if you humbly seek His face. "Seek Me and live " says God.

He apologised, but we're talking about a fanatical hard-line Islamic backlash.
He said what they deemed as insulting.
Hopefully it will die down without much fuss but chances R they won't accept his apology as quickly as we'd/they'd like.

I haven't heard of anyone saying that.
I'm a Muslim and I certainly don't want him to be killed, he's apologised for the remarks he made and let that be the end of it.
