There are so many ways. Mine is icing sugar, cocoa and a bit of melted butter and mix to consistancy with milk and my mum uses water so the discussion began on how every one makes it differently, so I thought i would get some other ways to try. Thanks for taking the time

Butter Cream Cheese Frosting
1 package of cream cheese softened (3 ounces)
2 tablespoons of butter or margarine, softened (butter is better)
2 tablespoons of milk
1/4 teaspoon of vanilla
Dash of salt
2 to 2 1/4 cups of confectioners sugar (powered sugar)

Blend cream cheese and butter in small mixing bowl, Add milk and vanilla and salt and mix well. Stir in confectioners sugar until thick enough to spread. Spread on cooled cake, it will melt. Enough for one 13 x 9 inch cake

Basically you need Sugar (confectioner or icing sugar), melted butter, water... sometimes people use milk or even egg whites!

Some recipes will suggest a combination of sugar and cream cheese!

But if you are talking about Royal Icing (which is hard white im material) then it is made of egg whites, icing sugar, and some will add lemon juice .

Here is an easy recipe for you
1/2 cup refrigerated egg whites
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
4 cups of icing sugar

Beat egg whites and cream of tartar using an electronic mixer (high speed until it becomes foamy).
Add the icing sugar gradually, beating on low speed until its well blended, then beat on high speed 5 minutes or until stiff peaks form.
