I have never seen something as retarded as the church of Satan. They call themseleves satanist, yet they claim to be Atheists. They say Satan means "contender," but they dress up in red and black and wear little retarded horns that are the creation of evangelicals view on Satan. Their symbol is stolen and derives from religion. How can they be an atheist and at the same time have a the black bible that basically tells them how to live? And why make retarded little rituals? Once a Satanist told me because it is a form of therapy, but if they are a real atheist that embrace science, why participate in a ritual that's an obvious placebo? It doesn't make sense. And do they even know their own leader? Anton LaVey, not his real name, was just some druggie that never went to college, and he stole the idea of nihilism and plagiarized Ayn Rand and Aleister Crowley's works on Thelema.
I think for the first time real atheists and the theists can agree in something; that Satanism is retarded.

kehkohjones: I do respect their freedom to be as retarded as they are, but I also respect my freedom to say they are retarded and think they are retarded. When we create a bullshit world full of political correctness that overrides our first amendment, that's a problem.
I honestly want to understand their reply to my criticism. I just can't see how a rational atheist can believe in that.

I have to agree that it seems a shameful waste of energy and time.
So sad an example of human folly. They might as well spend their time and energy being Trekkies.

You might want to speak to a real Laveyist Satanist instead of posting here... You'll get a better answer.
I am an atheist who doesn't think Laveyist Satanism is retarded. Most of what you say can be said of Taoism and Buddhism too - not believing in God doesn't mean you can't draw strength from like-minded communities and from rituals. A 'bible' written for non-believers can be seen in a similar light to any of the self-help manuals that are out there - a philosophical / psychological treatise that people can read and get advice or gain knowledge from.
As for the character of Anton LaVey himself, I'm not in a position to comment about that.
I'm perfectly fine with LaVeyist Satanism. I don't believe in it, but I'd take it over standard Christianity any day.

Yeah, but...then you have to as well assert that all the other nerdy misfits that don't seem to realize they aren't so alone in their misfittedness, seem to like to join any club, group or organization that will give them some noteriaty, status or illusion of power...as do most cultic practices..even as far as the absurd dungeons and dragons craze of the 80's which has evolved into the "gaming" (role playing/charector/plot development) of today and then the fringe groups of Harry Potterians, Trekkies, Star Warriors and The Church of the Lord of The Rings...I mean..can your eyes roll far back enough in your head? I also know of some kids that were heavy into the Blade triolgy movies and the "vampire" fettishes of the late '90s to now...though I think most of it has passed. Kids getting thier teeth capped and filed like vampires and stuff...its just nuts. What're ya gonna do though...its a free country. We raise our children in a society that frowns and lashes out at any kind of weakness, appearance flaws and "nerdiocity" (not geekocity...because that just insinuates a potiential braininess that either provides wit for the comic relief or the ability to get somewhere, achieve and make money.) Just like the boys who culminated the disaster of the Columbine shootings...I'm by NO means whatsoever advocating what they did...yet, I as a chubby "geek/nerd" girl of the 80's who was ostricized by all except those who knew and valued me for my rapier wit and profound intelligence (not to mention all my other redeeming qualities) had on occasion played out the scenario of violence upon said snooty perkopied cheerlearder or neanderthal jock (they move in packs). Its a good thing I wasn't well trained in martial arts nor an embracer of violence cuz my musings often portrayed me as laying such a strong round house to the chin as to decapitate and send Perky or Neander's head flying. Something right out Kill Bill to be exact. So there would have been my genre religion to embrace...a Hattori Hanzo sword would have been my weapon of choice. That's just me though..the bullying, the picking on, the degradation of even those who should be your staunchest supporters ie, parents, teachers, clergy and etc...often turning their backs on these awkward, less than beautiful, esteem deprived youth..begets these people who find some other soft cusions to fall on and plunder their attentions toward. The wounds are deep...the memories painful and stinging..even years later. So finding these groups where you are "normal" and accepted..well, there's a pay off..or why else would they do it? Its a fantasy. In our fantasies..how often do they reflect our realities? Or make sense? Or are rational? There is no empowerment for our youth now days to be found in the secular world with all of its messages of failure...we see it everywhere and it carries over into adulthood...I found mine only by the love of Christ. With Him, who can stand against me...whom shall I fear? No one..so I'm free to be, think and say whatever I want. The above is just a theory of mine though. I could be wrong. Love in Christ, ~J~

Did you know that there are two types of Satanist? Just because they don't believe what you or I believe, doesn't make them retarded. Leave them alone, they aren't hurting anyone.
I suppose you would call me retarded for being a Witch?

It's their right to believe as they please. If you don't like them, tell them to go to the Devil. Ignore them and maybe they'll go away. All YOU have to do is respect their rights, liberties and freedomes... the same ones YOU are also blessed with; it's also known as "life and let live," in case you haven't made the connection. Good luck and best wishes.

Yes, I s'pose your saying that the church of Satan has no real basis. I guess you could make a similar argument for any religion.

They're just big babies. It's all adolescent. It's like wanting to leave your parents' home, but you don't have the guts to go through with it. So they reject Christianity, but they don't really want to break away from all the beliefs of Christianity, because they're not intellectually mature enough to accept the psychological consequences of rejecting Christianity. So they choose to worship the adversary, in effect staying within the Christian pantheon. It's like going "I'm a Satanist now! Nyah!nyah!nyah!nyah! I reject your values! What you're gonna do about it Jesus? You have to forgive me! It says so in your book! Nyah!Nyah!Nyah!Nyah!"

Look, it's very simple: the "traditional" organized religions are failing in their mission, so folks have to make up their own.

There's a man sitting by a lake when a guy in a flowing white robe walks by.....who are you asks the guy?
I'm Jesus, replies the man.
Prove it says the guy
So Jesus walks out on top of the lake. at first it was ok but slowly he started to sink
See!! shouts the guy , i knew you weren’t Jesus
Jesus say, "I used to be able to do this before they put these holes in my feet."
