Religion is the cause for all chaos. I think this is going to be a very bad ending.

Nah. The world's been a mess for quite a while. The last century saw two world wars, the end of colonialism (for the most part), unprecedented famine in Africa... The one before that saw colonialism on a massive scale and the destruction of several Native people, countless revolutions, the birth of savage capitalism and industrial sweat shops... It's nothing new.
But at least, understanding what a mess it is now shows you're paying attention. If enough people do, maybe we'll eventually make this planet a better place.

Belief that the end of the world is near is a warning of how damaging religion can be to mental health - these people are living in a complete fantasy world.

LMAO...Yeah, read Matthew 24 (eyeroll) and see how it pretty much explains how things have been since the beginning of time. Hmmmm, I wonder how Jesus will be seen in the sky after the sun and moon have been blackened? Just a thought. :-)
Now to your question, no, I believe they want it to be true because they truly believe that there is some land of luxury that awaits them. It actually is a sick belief, when people are excited about the end times they don't realize that they are excited for bad things to happen to those who don't believe the same way. What more can we expect from people (even the most loving) who actually believe in the blood-thirsty monster god of the bible? But he 'loves' everyone. M'kay.

No, these people simply got to the gas station and purchased the maps I left for them. It begins, first make a right off of Interstate 80, bear left at the light, continue 4 miles to end of the world.

Well, if the end of the world is coming it is our own fault. But, I do agree that I think the end of religion is coming. I hope so, anyway, because they have caused so many problems, wars, etc, in the world.

I think people say the end is near because it helps them cope with the fact that their lives suck and that maybe, just maybe, the end will come soon and put them out of their misery.

Those 7th day adventists and others are good at preaching this doom and gloom, then they buy property, invest in shares, get married, have kids and plan for the future!!!! If any preacher tells you this junk, be careful, he'll be asking you to keep your money with him.
