Absolutely not! Missing meals puts your body into starvation mode and as a result your metabolic rate will reduce so that your body uses up less energy - meaning that when you do eat again you will put on more weight! It is actually better for you to eat more often - try having 5 or 6 smaller meals spaced out evenly throughout the day. This will also make it easier psychologically to cope with a diet as you do not have long periods of trying to supress hunger or a craving plus it will keep you blood sugar regulated. Of course you need to make sure your meals are healthy and balanced - lean protein such as fish, poultry and eggs are a good basis of a meal and add in some carbohydrates (wholewheat and natural are better, e.g. brown rice / pasta, sweet potatoes, pulses such as kidney beans / chick peas) and add plenty of vegetables, fruit or salad. Good small snacks are fruit, unsalted and unroasted nuts (small portions) and natural low-fat yogurt. And drink lots of water!

No no no! You rmetabolism slows down when ya skip meals. The reason that you are supposed to eat breakfast when dieting is because its starts your metabolism burning early on. Its best to snack on healthy things during the day. Have a HEALTHY breakfast, some fruit. grnaola, yogurt. Say you have that at like 8 am. Around 10 am eat a rice cake or some grapes, not a lot mind you but say 10 grapes (its like a habdful). Then have a sensible lunch. Snack again on something healthy and have a sensible dinner. Try not to eat anything super heavy before bed. Weight watchers will tell you the same thing. Oh - drink LOTS of water. Trust me! I am soo bad about eating. I will go all day and eat nothing and then eat dinner. When I started doing this I lots a lot the first week! Water is a big key, helps flush out fat and it fills you up. Good luck!!!

The optimal way to lose weight is to split the same or less calories into 6-8 small meals per day eating fresh fruits and vegetables and good lean protein. The benefit of splitting your caloric intake this way is the mitigation of insulin. If you eat a large meal your blood glucose will rise to the point where insulin will be secreted to regulate you BG.When the excess glucose in your blood cannot be stored as glycogen it is immediately converted to fat and stored in your adipose tissue.Skipping a meal then eating a regular meal will increase this insulin activity and send your body into starvation mode storing the calories as fat(the bodies prefered storage system for prolonged energy).I love the critique up there that says it's the dumbest thing she's ever heard.Sorry but that's some of the worst spelling I've ever seen hun.Don't worry, many people think this technique of skipping meals works. The only stupid question is the one you never ask(I used to tell my students that)

Well, it's not unsafe but there is a more effective way. This sounds wrong but if you eat 5 to 6 meals per day you will actually lose more weight. Let me explain- take the amount of calories you need to maintain your weight and instead of eating them in 3 meals, as most do, try breaking the calories into 5 of 6 meals. If you are eating more often than your body has time to use the food you eat now rather than trying to digest and "hold" the calories for you to burn while your body waits for the next meal. Eating more often also keeps your bodies metabolism running constantly. Which means you will have a steady burning of calories through out your day rather than 3 spikes in burning of calories.

I'm sure most nutritionists will say skipping is not a good idea.
But I'm not one and don't think its a bad thing.
I don't think we need to eat every day - who made up that rule?
As long as you don't pig out when you have that next meal.
I feel better when I miss a meal on occasion, you may not however.
Surely it would not be unsafe to skip and would help keep the kilos under control.

No, it is better to eat many small healthy meals. When your body thinks it is not going to get food, it shuts down metabolism and the food that would have been turned into energy now turns into fat that is stored. Not only that but it is likely you will eat more because you skipped the meal before.

skipping meals is never a good way of controlling or losing weight as it can make you hungrier and then you will eat more on your next meal. Instead why not just eat a small meal if you are just not hungry? Maybe a fruit or a yogurt?

To lose weight, a person has to reduce the calorie intake by some amount by modifying their diet. A diet without sufficient nutrients will only increase the appetite of the person trying to lose weight. Since most people combine a diet with an exercise plan, additional nutrients are required for the growth of muscles required to increase the metabolic rate required for long term weight loss. Skipping meals as a way to lose weight may backfire and cause you to eat more at the next meal.
