Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day but teach him how to fish and he has a livelihood. Doesn't this tell you that the way out of poverty is education, and this means that instead of spending USD350 billion on a war with no end how about spending USD35 billion in trying to bring an end to poverty.

Yes. Instead of giving a fish to a man, better you teach him how to fish so that he would never beg for food. When you give a man a fish, he would thank you. After his hunger is satiated, he would forget you and again he would proceed for begging. But if you teach him how to fish, he would gain experience in fishing. Not only he would give up the habit of begging, but he would be able to give alms to others. He would remember you as long as he lives. The author is right. Such kind of help is a permanent one.

Give a man a fish, and he will have food for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
