Working out the source of your stress is the first step. Then find a way of changing your lifestyle to get rid of it. If you can't get rid of it, then you can find time during the day for relaxation doing whatever you love doing the most. Reading a good book, going for a walk in the park, having a relaxing bath are some examples. Also, do you have The Book of Calm? Pick a page and off you go!

You can not stop stress, however, you can becoming more accepting of life's stresses by trying to do these three things:

1) Perceive your environment, without putting demands on it to be different.

2) Experience your current emotional state, without attempting to change it.

3) Observe your thoughts and action patterns, without attempting to stop or control them.

This takes practice, but the payoff is well worth it. It's a kind of 'zen'/psychological technique that will help you attain emotional distance from your problems, while simultaneously creating a sense of peace of mind. This is a much easier state from which to make changes in your life to things that may be causing you to feel stressed out.

Good luck!

There is no way to avoid stress entirely. There are two forms, healthy and unhealthy stress. Learning how to cope with your problems, having a positive attitude, and being able to communicate with your family and friends openly is a good start.

A certain amount of stress is normal because it keeps us on our toes and more aware of our environment so we can spot danger early, but if it is dragging you down you need to identify the cause and eliminate it.

I had a course of positive cognative therapy with a trained counsellor when I was going through a difficult patch in my life and it saved me.

My doctor wanted me to take anti-depressants before the counselling, but they were quite useless, because when I was on them and had to make a decision I just switched off. Getting off them is also difficult.
