Kim,
What you really should to is go along to crufts in March - it is fantastic - They have stalls with EVERY kennel club recognised breed there - and the breeders are there too - or they can recommend breeders once you recognise the breed you like. We did this 18 months ago and now I have a Giant Schnauzer pup (16 months old) - the breeder had actually bred the dogs the day before crufts and we got ours from the litter she produced.

Hello,
from you description, the dog sounds like a chow chow. The best place I would advice you to look for one would be an animal rescue (not sure, but there is perhaps a chow rescue somewhere). But think twice before getting one, a dog should not be bought on look only, and the chow has lot of temperament, and his coat needs grooming to stay that lovely, make sure you have enough time and space for him. Just in case, there are lot of other very cute breeds, and I'm sure you will find the perfect one for you. Dogs are fantastic animals, whatever the breed, you will love yours to bit!

If the dog u saw has a mane like a lion, it is a rough coated chow chow. In my opinion, the best dog u will ever buy. They are obedient (at least ours was, and we have had 2 of them), only bark when necessary and very much a 1 person dog. Very easy to toilet train. But if u want a dog that is going to run and catch a ball/stick, forget it, because they wont!

That sounds like a chow chow, they do really look like a teddy bear/lion, but I have read that they are not very friendly, aloof dogs.
If you want a really cute dog that looks like a teddy bear you should get a shih tzu, I keep mine in a puppy cut and everyone wants to touch him on the streets. They have huge eyes with really long eyelashes and are very friendly. You could get one for $500-$700.

Sounds like a Shar Pei. They're expensive and can be aggressive if not obedience trained.

A pug?
Before you get a dog, check you can afford to keep it correctly. A few months ago I rescued two kitten sisters who were headed for extinction. I thought they were cheap to maintain, but it is vital to do it properly and so far they have cost me a fortune in accessories, injections, flea treatment etc - and I still have to pay for them to be spayed!
The cheapest things are giving them love and food!!
