This is hardware problem, is the drive CD drive? DVD drive physically looking identical except a logo on the front of the plate says DVD.

Buy a DVD drive, $35 if you know where to look, set the Master/Slave pin configuration at the back to be the same as the CD drive you take out and make a drop-in replacement of the two drive boxes and that's it.

showing cd/dvd doesn't mean that you hardware is able to play dvd actually there is no way to canvert a cd drive into dvd drive you can just play dvd with hardwaers which support it and the message 'no disc' means that your hardware doesn't support dvd

there are two types of dvd discs, one is a dvd-r and one is a dvd+r most of them support the dvd+r , make sure that the dvd disc that you're using is not dvd-r because most of the old dvd rives don't support the dvd-r's so look on your dvd disc box and see if it says if its dvd-r or dvd+r , if its a dvd-r then try a dvd+r and see if your drive will recognize that one.
