Which is correct, 'memo to' or 'memo for'? Why?

Please explain.

memo for

'Memorandum' is a noun...it's like saying I have 'something' FOR you.

The word 'to' is a preposition...it's usually used directly after a verb and not a noun, for instance: I go TO school.
