Preferably white bread, buttered with jam, but marmite can be fun too. The most important thing for me with toast is that it is hot when I eat it. I'm happy for it to be a little bit burnt so long as it doesn't go cold- the best toast in my eyes may simply be toast straight out of the toaster, spread with butter and munched down almost immediately.
I've had good toast off an aga also, but you have to stand there for ages, waiting for each side to be just right before you flip the toast griddle. Maybe it's worth it, but it's hard to say for sure... Some schools of thought regarding toast hold that the toast should be cooled on a toast rack so it will be crispy, but I feel heat retention is more important than crispiness is for tasty toast.

White. Cut quite thick. Done underdone/golden. Butter . . . . . or dripping (only old fashioned stuff like my Nana had)
So, butter, and marmite! Or jam! Or peel-free marmalade!
It really depends on the mood. Toast is ultra-adaptable!
Anyone remember that single "Toast" that came out, was it the late 70's?

For me is white, underdone and with lots of butter and it must be still hot.
I also like cheese and cherry tomatoes on toast.
My husband has, white, underdone little bit of butter not to much, and with marmalade.
My daughter has white, underdone with a little bit of butter and mar-mite.
My son has white, burnt, no butter and lots and lots of marmalade.
What about you what you like?

White toast, lightly smeared with butter, and eaten like 40 second after it comes out of the toaster. It cools down way too fast.
But we all know toast tastes the best when it has a smiley face or hello kitty branded on it.....
