Each country has a consulate. You take your passport to that country's consulate along with some cash where you will fill out a form they give you or you can print it online prior to going. Each country has set it's own amount that they will charge for a visa, depending on how quickly you'd like to have it processed. Some countrys require no visa. Google it. Quick processing (same day will cost you a premium). It can take as much as 6 weeks or as little as 1 day depending on how quickly you want it. You're passport is stamped with a visa and you're good to go. To find a country's consulate location simply google it. Be sure to get the innoculations you will need prior to going. Again, each country suggests different things. You can google that too. Have fun, don't eat the street food or drink the water, lol.

When I applied for an Indian visa, it was straight forward.
First of all, most countries need visas to india, yes, even USA (reciprocation policy fee may be added), Canada and the UK.
Depending on your nationality, you may need the visa.
You will then have to make an appointment or simply proceed to the Indian consulate in your area. You must bring with you all relevant documents to support your application.
Normally, when they do not need to make further checks on you, they will issue the visa within a couple of hours.

The best thing to do is find information about Indian embassy. Then ask them apart from passport what else do you need in order to apply for visa?
Then arrange to go and see them!
