2 toes. Ostriches are very territorial so be careful when you are around them cos they can rip you apart with those toes. I used to live about 4 hours away from South Africa's 'Land of Ostriches' - Oudtshoorn. Did you know that if you are close to an Ostrich and you they are charging for you, hopefully you will be close to a thorn bush (common in SA) you pick it up and the Ostrich wont attack you - An Ostrich eye is bigger than its brain so they will be threatened by the thorn bush because they are scared it will damage their eyes... Seriously. Ostriches also have a tendency to eat shiny things so dont wear any sunnies when you're visiting an Ostrich... studies have shown an ostrich stomach that contained half a pair of sunnies, earrings, money and even a spark plug from a car.

They have 2 toes on each foot. Apaprently it became this way as an adaptation for running.
Most other birds have 4 toes, (the 3 toed woodpecker is one exception).
But is the "Psitticine" (parrots and macaws) I find most interesting: they are set apart from other birds in that they have 2 toes facing forward and 2 facing back as opposed to the ususal 3 forward anbd 1 back design.
This design allows them to pick up their food when they eat it.
