Rise? It seems like there's always been a ridiculous amount of self-righteous religious behavior in the United States. I think the difference is that we've had a president for the past six years who wears his phony religious self-righteousness on his sleeve.

Lack of correct education.The youth of today are not taught to think for themselves.In American University's they just want you to parrot back what they say or what is in the books.This is a direct backlash from the free thoughts in the 50's,60,and 70's.
As a result people do not think for themselves and get hooked on these self righteous groups.People who cant think for themselves feel better when they can put down others.

Greedy, control-freak and power-hungry Neo-Cons. One of the most intelligent things I have heard a polititian say (although I can't remember who it was), is that what really needs to happen, is that men in white coats really need to come and get all the neo-cons. Was on "Meet the Press" or one of those type shows not too long ago.
As for their followers. I guess that they have heard the expression, "follow the money", and most of them being well, in "Red States", they probably took it literally and think that if they follow the money, they might end up with some of it. Too bad. Hope they catch on soon........

I believe that it is the end times. Scripture tells us in 2 Tomothy 3:1, "But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power;
Also in 1 Timothy 4:1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,
Also in 2
Thessalonians 2:3, "to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first,
Also in Revelation 3:14, "The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this: 15 `I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 `So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. 17 `Because you say, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, 18 I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. 19 `Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.
These verses and many more indicate that in the last days the church will fall away from what Jesus taught and as such will not be representative of what Christianity ought to be. I am afraid that is what you see today and it is not what it ought to be.
Sworry, but if you are able to look past the phoneyness of the church Jesus Christ is still there.

They are anti American in that they are undermining the US Secular Democratic Government that is supposed to represent all it's citizens, they want to turn it into a pseudo-theocracy that privileges the interests of christian lobby groups over everyone else. This is fascism in the guise of religion.
