I like egg nog too and wish it was sold year round. The reason they don't is because they don't feel they have a market for it when it's not Christmas time.

Let's rise up and make our voices heard!!

Family traditions can wait until your child is old enough to know what a family tradition is. As for drinking egg nog, I would not give it to him because of the egg allergy risk but when he is older you can always use egg nog WITHOUT the rum. He's ten months old let him rip wrapping paper while you guys drink egg nog. He'll have more fun with that.

The heavy eggnog market is Christmastime. Why not make your own? It's very simple. As a kid we beat up 2 or 3 whole raw eggs, added to a huge tumbler of cold whole milk, added maybe a half container of heavy cream, added a teaspoon of vanilla extract and a couple of tablespoons of sugar (to taste) and whipped it up. Also, add a teaspoon or two of artificial rum flavoring or, a couple of shots of dark rum. That's the original way you make egg nog and don't worry about salmonella either as I am still alive after all these years.

i really dont know but i wish it was served all year long. Maybe for the price that it costs to make it. I use it in so many ways that waiing for the holidays just for egg nog is just to funny, try substituting egg nog for milk when you are making french toast so damm yummy

because it is too good and we Americans are obese enough already...

also, it is, as another answerer stated, a seasonal thing, once winter only, however, Easter eggnog has made an appearance in the last few years.
