Think of things you are interested in, and do that! Or, try some volunteer work, if you like your men sweet as apple pie!
If you like art, go to a place where there's art exhibits, or if you like music, go to concerts.
Doing your interests can help add to chances of making sure there's enough compatibility.
You say somewhat church. Are you catholic? There's Catholic Singles.com, and this site is actually supposed to be a safe way to meet singles, as most sites are not.

Maybe local social groups directed at various ages that go on outings together. Recreational sports or other interests.
I have a hard time meeting single guys because I'm going to college as an adult student. Most of the guys are either just out of high school aged. There are the occasional middle-aged guys, or some within my age range (27-35), but are in a relationship. So there's no choices there. Not into bars, either.

To be honest there is no right place to meet anyone. As cliche as it sounds you gotta be in the right place at the right time. You cannot control where to meet peoplebecause the minute you try and have too mnuch control over a situation you are not letting nature do its thing.
Its like searching for love or someone to love, you cannot search for those things you gotta work on yourself as an individual and learn how to be out going. Make lots of friends of the same sex and opposite sex just friends nothing else., get in the habit of being social, if you are not. Go places enjoy life because the more outgoing you are and the more you enjoy life the more appealling you are to people noone wants to be around a boring person with no life. Boring people dont attract anyone they repel.
So my guess is just get out there meet people expose yourself and soon enough you will bump into your kinda people be it for the sake of friendships or relationships.
It worked for me it will work for you.

the grocery store. Look for the "bachelor food" (ravioli, hash, beefstew.) in small cans.
approache with the usual questions; "do you happen to know where the ____ are?
Notice something in the cart and ask: are those any good?, I've been meaning to try that.
Although if he's a tad dense like me, he won't pick up on any flirting. but hey it's a start.
