Akasha, Generally speaking, yes, but first you must consider the recipe and the difference between all-purpose and self-rising flours. All-purpose is just "flour", and self-rising also contains baking powder (or soda) and salt. So-- in a recipe where no soda, salt or baking powder is needed; you would not want to use self-rising flour. Exception: gravy--you can use either flour to make gravy! Hope this helps. Dona

i use self raising flour 99% of the time. It is the main flour used in Australia. Here is a great recipe
chocolate cake Makes 2 in circle tins
2 cups of s.r flour
2 cups sugar
1 tlbs cocoa
1 cup milk
30 gr melted butter
2 eggs
Mix all ingredients and bake 180 Celsius for 40 min or till knife comes out clean. Cool then ice

You can't use it as a direct substitute, but you can use it in recipes which call for both all-purpose flour and baking powder - just leave out the baking powder.

just finish it and dont buy it anymore
use recipes with baking powder
you cant use both in the same recipe especially for cakes
a way to use self raising flour can be to make crepes
or pancakes if they get thick it doesnt matter
or batter for fish or coating other things

you can also in baking with egg as an ingredient u
e one less egg for every 4 needed
