I have the "Girl next door syndrome". The problem is that I have excepted the fact that I will not be with her a long time ago, but I compare everyone to her. The worst thing is, is that one of her friends, likes me. I can't date this other person, I don't have feelings for her.
I feel lost trying to start all over getting a best friend. We grew up together, and have known each other for 16 years. She is my best friend, and when I visit her I brighten her day, even on the gloomiest of days. So how do I get passed this?

I have been meeting new people!
I am not trying to make her love me! We already love each other, just not in the way lovers do.
I want to find someone who is as understanding and compationate as her. She hadn't been over to my place in a long time, (she now lives in a different city), but when SHE came over a couple weeks ago, it was like we were on the same level... reading the same books, watching same movies. THAT is what I am looking for. We ARE best friends, but I need to find someone that will be with me.

Does she know how you feel about her? Tell the girl that likes you that your heart isn't free because it belongs to someone else already. If your best friend only thinks that you think of her as a best friend then you've got to let her know how you feel. Tell her that as her best friend that you've discovered what a wonderful person she is and that you have started to realize that you feel more than friendship for her. Ask her how she feels about that. Maybe it is something that she has thought about too, but has been too afraid to admit to you for fear that you wouldn't feel the same way. Oftentimes if a girl and guy are friends first, and one starts to have romantic feelings for the other, there is the fear that they'll ruin the friendship if the relationship fails. So, be brave and share your feelings! If you're not honest with her, you'll never know what could have been and you'll probably always wonder....

Sounds to me like you do not intend to let her go, but you want to see what else is out there. Good luck with that. You may loose out on the best thing and you already have it!
