She makes loads of crappy sweaters, and this time she gave me one and said I should tell the truth, do I like it? And I was like, well....and she said The Truth! So I was like well actually it's hideous, please don't make me any more of them, I throw them all out. And she said ok, but when I left I heard her cry and throw her needles in the garbage, didn't I do humanity a favor or was too mean?

You should go to a crafts shop, purchase her some good quality needles to knit with, and an exclusive yet easy to manage yarn, package it nicely and go to your grandmother.

AND APOLOGIZE!

And give her the present and tell her that you were not kind to her and that you regret it.

Your grandmother is worth the world. And more! Had it not been for her, your mother/father would not exist and neither would you. She is older than you by far, and although her sense for knitting might not be as accurate as the machines used for fashion shops, still her sweaters are much better than the ones you can buy for money. And you know why?

Beacause she knits those "hideous" sweaters with love and kindness.

.....

Once you have said your a sorry, sincerely, let it go and go about your day smiling. Life is lovely. Autumn is too; why not welcome it in one of grandma's amazing sweaters?

Had you not been the obviously spoiled self centered brat that you are you would have said. "Grandma I love you for making such a gift for me, it must have taken you alot of time. Thank you so much for caring for me enough to make it, but next time could I please choose the colors and patterns and could you show me how to do this too?" But what the heck your grandmother is probably old with one foot on a banana peel and one foot in the grave so you won't have to put up with her hideous sweaters much longer. And she will be free of you as well. I'm sure she looks forward to that day.

The truth hurts..always...you should have said "well, It's mot really my style, but Grandma, just because you made it for me, I love it ..so she gives you more of them just keep them. Someday she die..and you won't have to worry about the crappy sweaters anymore , just your crappy selfishness. You caused her to throw away the one enjoyment the old lady probably had..her knitting . You were probably the receipient of that joy becuase she loves you so much..would it hve been that hard to return that love? I hope some day when you are old and have grandchildren, that you have brought your own children up better so that the granchildren won't throw your joy in the trash.

Ya, unfortunately you were pretty mean. Old people are just like babies. If a 4 year old drew a picture and brought it to you, and asked what you thought, would you really tell them the picture looked bad? Probably not. Your grandma (just like my grandma) likes to make things out of yarn, and thread and stuff. It's just a hobby that they like to do. So, we all have to just deal with it....keep a seperate box in our closet full of grandma's sweaters or something. You could always take them and donate them to people who need em.

did you mean hideous in a fashion sense or hideous because the sweaters were poorly made?
it would have been much better to ask her to stop making them because you have too many in your wardrobe...she is making them faster than you can wear them out!
try to remember that your grandma is part of humanity, and more than that she is part of your humanity.

Here is a time when a little white lie wouldn't hurt. If she won't stop knitting for you, then ask her to make you socks or a throw or something you don't have to feel so bad about having. You know you were being harsh.

you shouldn't have been so frank to her...
you could have said it in a nicer way...
but what's done is done no point crying over split milk so
the best thing for you to do now...is to talk to her nicely and tell her that you didn't mean to hurt her feelings...
encourage her to keep knitting
just wear her sweater once or twice in front of her at home....
then you can bravely throw them away....
i hope that would help

MAYBE THERE WAS A MORE DELICATE WAY OF BEING HONEST. MAKING SWEATERS FOR THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS MIGHT BE HER WAY OF GIVING, MAYBE THAT IS ALL SHE HAS.
JUST TAKE THE SWEATERS, YOU DON'T EVER HAVE TO WEAR THEM. YOU CAN NOT TAKE BACK THE WORDS, BUT TELL HER YOU DID NOT DO A VERY GOOD JOB OF EXPRESSING YOURSELF AND HAD NO INTENTION OF HURTING HER. TELL HER TO KEEP MAKING THE SWEATERS, GIVE THEM TO A HOMELESS SHELTER IF YOU HAVE TO.
